Synopsis:

When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson.

Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn't be that big of a deal since Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he's still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I'm trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer.

Boy, was I wrong.

Rules are set, dinners are made, conversations are had, and a shirtless, swoony roommate walks around in nothing but a pair of black briefs, ruining me for every other man.

Before I know it, I turn into a panting, lust-filled woman begging for Tucker to kiss me, touch me, and show me exactly what is hiding under those briefs.

But with great orgasms, comes great consequences.

Tucker might be my friend and roommate but he’s also my best friend's ex-boyfriend, making him completely off-limits. At least that's what my brain is telling me, my heart is speaking an entirely different language.

Excerpt:

“Morning,” Tucker’s deep voice rattles off the cabinets. It’s his morning voice, deeper, throatier—if that makes sense—and I hate to admit it, because he’s just my friend, but sexier.

Once my pupils adjust to the light, I take Tucker in. He’s standing in front of the stove, rubber spatula in hand, wearing a white long-sleeve Henley shirt, the top two buttons undone, a pair of worn jeans with a few paint stains on them, and tan work boots. Sweet Jesus, he makes construction look good. Strap a tool belt around his waist and stick him in front of a camera for the benefit of all womankind.

“Morning,” I say in reply, using the counter to help hold up my tired body. “You’re up early. What time do you have to go into work?”

“Around seven thirty. I like to get an early start before the boys come in.” He looks me up and down, a small smile at the corner of his lips. “You look good.” He motions around his head with his hand. “I really like what you did with your hair.”

I turn toward the window in the kitchen and check out my reflection. Sure enough, my long brown hair looks like a lion’s mane poofed out and framing my face with an abundance of volume. Beautiful.

There is no use in taming it, so I leave my hair as is and turn back toward Tucker. “Not many people can get this kind of height while sleeping.” I pretend to fluff my hair.

“Impressive.” He chuckles and then points to the coffee maker with the spatula. “Coffee is done, mugs are above in the cabinet. Grab me a cup, will ya? Eggs will be done shortly, bacon is warming in the oven.”

I do as directed, thinking it’s kind of cute how he’s including me in on his little morning breakfast. “I didn’t even know you had eggs. I was expecting to hit up Dunkin’ Donuts or Tim Horton’s this morning.”

He turns off the stove and reaches for two plates from the dish rack. “I went to Walmart this morning. Picked up a few things.”

“This morning?” I pour two cups of coffee and turn toward him. “What time did you wake up?”

“Four thirty,” he answers casually. “Got a quick run in, did some weights, took a shower and then went to Walmart.” He fills our plates with bacon and eggs and then nods toward the dining room, plates and silverware in hand. “I have a surprise.”

I follow him to the dining room where he flips on the light and reveals a card table fold-out dining set.

“You got a table.” I chuckle, loving that it’s a fold-out card table with matching chairs. Anything is better than the floor.

“And placemats,” he adds, as he lifts two plastic placemats from one of the chairs. “The options were bleak so I went with dinosaurs for me and Trolls for you. Given the look of your morning hair, Trolls was the right choice.” Clever bastard. He sets them on the table and then puts our plates on top of them.

God, it’s too freaking cute. Chuckling, I take a seat and hand him his coffee. “Look at you getting all domestic. I never thought you would be a placemat kind of man, I stand corrected.”

He rests a napkin on his legs, which are spread drastically, almost the length of the table and leans over to fork some eggs into his mouth. “Didn’t want our food to damage the plastic of this high-class table.” I love the humor in his voice, it reminds me of all the good times we had, before the end of his relationship with Sadie.

“Smart man, you want this table to last.”

“Of course, you don’t see fine furniture like this in houses anymore. Everything has to be so sturdy. What ever happened to rickety furniture and living through a meal with the threat of your food possibly kissing the floor at any point in time?”

“The horror,” I joke.

He looks up at me. Some of his hair is still wet from his shower. Pointing his fork at me he says, “Are you ready to be schooled?”

“Schooled on what?” I take a bite of bacon and my stomach jumps in excitement for finally rewarding it for waking up early. All right, I will admit it, getting out of bed was a smart idea.

“It’s Monday, babe. DJ Hot Cock has his song picked and ready to show you what real music is.”

“When was my music taste ever questioned? I like good music.”

“We’ll see.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone. I watch as he flips through it until he lands on the song he wants to introduce me to. He presses play and sets his phone on the table. The light pickings of a guitar fill the small dining room. I don’t recognize the song, but I like the sound of it so far.

Just as I’m settling in to the sweet pickings of a guitar, the distinct voice of Zac Brown chimes in. I’ve known Tucker for loving EMO growing up, so his choice in a country song is very surprising to me, but when I look up at him, pure hometown country boy sitting across from me, it makes perfect sense.

And then the lyrics hit me. My Old Man. Zac sings about his father, hoping he’s proud of the man he’s become. I’m transported back to a dreary day in Whitney Point, where we grew up, when Sadie called me one Saturday morning. I was getting ready for the day. We were in middle school. Tucker’s dad was killed by a head-on collision, the dad Tucker just reconnected with, the dad Tucker had plans on moving in with to get away from his neglectful mom. Those next few days—and weeks—were a whirlwind of sorrow. Attending his funeral, my first ever funeral, seeing the look of devastation on Tucker’s face, wondering what he might be feeling, trying to channel his hurt, it was so much to take on as a teenager.

Glancing up, I take in Tucker’s expression. He’s lost in the music, in the words, just like me. When the song ends, I lean over and place my hand on his, our eyes meet and there is an unspoken understanding between us. I don’t have to say anything about his dad, about the tragedy we went through so many years ago together as friends. It’s all said between this silent exchange.

Excerpt:

How could it be so damn hot at seven in the morning? I wasn't sure, but it was. Even in a thin tank, cut-off shorts, and my boots, I was melting. I stood at the top of a ladder Cole had placed against a tree so that we could reach the peaches up top. I used the rubber band on my wrist and tied my hair into a knot at the top of my head, hoping that it helped. Cole climbed up behind me on the ladder and stood a couple of rungs below, but still, he towered over my small frame.

“Okay?” he asked.

“Yep,” I answered, even though I wasn't okay. He was so close, and that familiar earthy, smoke smell I loved almost as much as rocky road invaded my senses.

“Good.” He looked at the peaches. “Alrighty. You see the ones that have that pink color?” He motioned to a cluster of fruit in front of us. I nodded, trying not to breathe in too much. Because Jesus, he smelled delicious.

“Those look ripe and done. The paler ones behind them don’t look ready yet.” -I nodded again, and Cole grabbed my hand. He pressed his fingers in, wrapping both of our hands around a peach. He pushed the tips of his fingers into mine at the top of the fruit, near the stem.

“Feel the give, how it feels soft there?”

I squeezed my fingers around the stem again without his help and said, “Yep. Feels softer there.”

He smiled down at me. “Good. That’s also a sign it’s ripe for picking. But be gentle. They bruise easily.” Cole’s front pressed closer to my back, and I shivered. The way Cole taught me to do things here was pure torture. It was also outright ecstasy. I lived for these moments as much as I loathed them. Because the man was a damn tease. He’d sent me back to the big house a sweaty, panting mess more times than I could count, my panties drenched.

He gently squeezed our hands around the peach and twisted and pulled. The peach came free, my tiny hand gripped it and his big, rough hand wrapped around mine. He brought our hands to my face and pressed the peach closer to my nose.

“How does it smell?” he asked in my ear.

I wanted to say, “I don't know. I can’t smell a damn thing but your smoke and leather, and I don't want to.”

Instead, I closed my eyes. I pressed my nose right up against the peach and concentrated on the smell.

“Sweet,” I said, my eyes still closed. Our hands moved, and I felt the peach at my lips. My heart hammered and fire raced across my skin, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the weather.

Cole positioned himself even closer, and it seemed, in that moment, that every breath he took sucked up every bit of air in the atmosphere. My own breath quickened, and a growl rumbled low in Cole’s chest.

“Taste it,” he whispered in my ear, his lips so close that I was sure he could taste me on them.
I opened my mouth and wrapped my lips around the fruit, the fuzzy skin tickling my lips. I bit down, and that rumble I heard from Cole made an appearance again. I moaned as I pressed my teeth to the fruit, the juicy sweetness of the peach sliding over my tongue.

“So good,” I groaned as Cole pulled our hands and the peach back. A little juice rolled down my chin and I attempted to lift my free hand to wipe it.

“I got it,” Cole said, brushing his hand over my chin, slowly picking the juice up with his finger, and ever-so-Goddamn-enticingly placing his finger in his mouth before sucking it clean like it was the best thing he’d ever put in his mouth.

“Delicious,” he said, his hooded eyes on mine as he popped his finger out of his mouth.

And fuck me. I swayed on that ladder, my own eyes closing as I willed my cowboy to kiss me with every breath I took. I made myself only will this about once a day, so I thought I was doing pretty good.

He brought our hands holding the peach to his mouth. He wrapped his mouth around it, his lips brushing my fingers, and I felt it deep in my core. I pressed my thighs together and swallowed a moan.

“Perfect,” he said, staring into my eyes. He held my gaze for a moment more before shaking his head and letting my hand, which was still clasped around the peach, go. Then he stepped off the ladder like he hadn't just made sweet, sweet love to that peach with his mouth right here in front of me.

I watched him walk off to another tree, place a ladder against it, and climb up like nothing in the world had happened. I kicked the rung of the ladder and turned back to the tree. Damn peach molester.

Review:

Oh.my.sweet.baby.Jesus!!!!

The Line, by Amie Knight, is the kind of book that leaves you wanting more. This story grabbed by attention from the very beginning and it never let me go! Have you ever wished you could go back in time and read a book all over again for the very first time? This is what happened to me with this book. I want to FEEL the story all over again for the very first time. Everly and Cole are two characters that I will never forget. Their love story is one of the most beautiful love stories that I have ever read! There is still a party going on in my stomach. The butterflies won’t stop!! Thinking about this amazing couple makes me happy.

I’m scared to give anything away about this beautiful love story in my review. I will skip the usual little recap I do about the story. Every single reader needs to fall in love with Everly and Cole’s love story just like I did. I have to be honest and admit that I did not even read the blurb for this story. Knowing that Amie Knight wrote this book was enough for me.

Everly Woods is a strong heroine with a heartbreaking story. She learned the hard way that letting people in creates chaos in her life. When she comes face-to-face with sexy cowboy Cole Briggs, she lets him in. In her life, heart and soul. He’s stuck in a difficult moment in his life and Everly is determined to make him smile again. As days go by, Everly and Cole’s friendship turns into something more. Are they ready to let go of the past in order to take a step toward a future together?

Everly and Cole are such fantastic character! I loved every single moment of my reading journey with them. This couple creates fireworks together. They shared moments of blazing passion that left me fanning myself and tender and sweet moments that made me swoon so bad! The supporting cast of characters was INCREDIBLE!!! I love it when you not only fall in love with the main characters, but with the supporting ones as well.

I discovered Amie Knight when she published her first book and I’m so hooked on her writing style! It’s phenomenal and she makes me feel like I’m a character in the story every single time. Her characters are charming, fun and they always make ME feel at home. The Line is a story I will reread without a doubt. This book is scoring a nice spot on my Best of 2017 list. If you have not discovered Amie Knight, you are seriously missing out! Her stories are intense, romantic and they always leave you with a heart bursting with joy.

Rating:

I give, The Line, by Amie Knight, 5 passionate, charming, heart-melting, sexy cowboy falls for sassy heroine stars!

Review of Set Me Free:

M.R. Leahy is a new author in book town. I'm so grateful to have book sisters that have their bookworm radar on and find fantastic new authors, books, series to fall in love with. The Bound Forever Series is one series you want to add to your TBR list if you are a fan of dark romance that delivers all the feels!

I won't go into the details of Emmalyn and Kodah's journey because I want each reader to have the same reading experience I did. A reading journey filled with beautiful, poignant moments that will leave you gasping for air! This story is very difficult to read. Emmalyn and Kodah are sex slaves and the things that they go through in that dark and twisted place will forever haunt them. Their friendship turned to love is what sets them free from their demons. The only moments of peace that they find is when they are in each other's arms.

This story made my heart twist and melt all at once. It has many dark moments, but tender ones as well. Kodah is a strong and protective hero. His love for Emmalyn is so breathtaking! Emmalyn is a fierce heroine that I admire. She's the kind of heroine I love to cheer for and I wanted her to find peace and love in the arms of the boy that shared the same fate as her.

M.R. Leahy is without a doubt on my auto-read list. Her debut novel as left me speechless and wanting more! Her characters are unforgettable and her writing style is mesmerizing. I was lucky to have book two in my hands when I finished reading Set Me Free. That cliffhanger at the end made me forget about the life around me and I did not eat or sleep until I knew what was going to happen next. This is one series you do not want to miss!

Rating:

I give, Set Me Free, by M.R. Leahy, 4.5 powerful, page-turning, heart-racing, unforgettable stars!

Review of Set Us Free:

Gah!!!!! I can't even deal with all my emotions!!! Set Us Free was EPIC!!! It was everything I wanted it to be and more!

The second installment of the Bound Forever Series, by M.R. Leahy, is more twisted and dark than the first one. I expected the demons from Emmalyn and Kodah's pasts to show up, but I never expect them to come knocking on the door with such evilness.  I don't want to spoil book one for people who have not read it yet by telling you what happens in book two. What I will tell you is that Emmalyn and Kodah's love story takes us on a roller coaster ride of emotions that will leave you at the edge of your seat!

Kodah's love is like a security blanket to Emmalyn's broken soul. With each new moment that they share, their love grows stronger and more beautiful than ever. I can't even begin to tell you how many times my heart melted for these two characters. Their love story is one that was born in the darkest moments of their lives, but it bloomed into such a powerful and intense love that nobody can break.

I read this series back-to-back and now I have the biggest book hangover!! I already miss Emmalyn and Kodah and I can't wait for the next installment to release! M.R. Leahy  is on my bookworm radar and I'm not letting her go! I have no doubt that she has many fantastic stories that are creating a chaos in her writing cave. I really hope she gives each and every one of those characters a story as unforgettable as Emmalyn and Kodah's epic love story. This series is going in my Top 2017 Reads list. It was absolutely CRAZY AMAZING!

Rating:

I give, Set Us Free, by M.R. Leahy, 5 all-consuming, mesmerizing, dark, intense stars!
