My Review:

Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters was twisted, emotional and brilliant! I don't usually read many dark romance novels, but this one got me hooked from the moment I read the blurb. I knew that this book was going to make me go nuts! The author did a PHENOMENAL job on her debut novel. From the Prologue to the Epilogue I was devouring every single word of this story. The pages were turning, my heart was racing and my emotions were all over the place. This book contains one of the most intriguing stories I have ever read! There is so much I would love to say, but I don't want to give anything away. You need to FEEL this story from beginning to end.

Tess has a loving and caring boyfriend. With Brax she feels safe and wanted. Their relationship is missing a bit of spiciness and Tess would love to live out her darkest fantasies, but Brax is not into that. To celebrate their two years anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a trip to Cancun. Once they arrive, they go out for a ride. When they stop at a cafe, Tess is kidnapped. From that moment on she fights with everything that she has.The only thing she can't fight is her undeniable attraction to Q, which is her new Master.

Tess was exactly the kind of characters I imagined she would be. Her willpower made her strong and even if she suffered horrible situations, she survived them one by one. My heart broke so many times while reading this story. I had to put my ereader down and take a step back because the story was too REAL. I was an emotional mess! I loved the relationship Tess developed with Suzette and Mrs. Sucre. It's important for me to connect not only with the MC, but to be able to find a connection with the other characters as well. I am crossing my fingers that we will get Suzette's story in the near future ;)

Q captivated me. From the moment he came down those stairs to welcome his ''Esclave'' I was in a complete state of MUSH! He captivated me in a way that it was impossible for me to focus on anything else. I wanted to know everything about him. He made me feel so many different emotions. He had a JE NE SAIS QUOI about him that got me addicted! 

Q and Tess are blazing hot together. Holy Crapola! These two have some delicious chemistry. **Warning** Make sure you read this book at home or else you will have to explain your facial expressions while reading some of those steamy scenes ;)  

My Rating:

I give Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters 5 dark, sensual, heart-stopping, breathtaking, unique stars! This story played out like a movie in my head. The characters were addictive, the storyline was amazing and the writing style was outstanding! The Epilogue in this book was EPIC!!! I can't wait to follow Tess and Q's story in Quintessentially Q, which will be the sequel to Tears of Tess and will be from Q's POV.

My Thoughts:

The Innocent was a dark, intense, and twisted story about obsession, jealousy, sexual extremes, role playing, bondage, pushing the limits, and atypical sexual behaviors.  It continued where The Protege left off .  Serena stayed with Price and he treated her like an object.  He kept tabs on her at all times, by having his driver take her straight to college and back.  He also has a bodyguard who followed her, and was assigned to "protect what was his."  Price had a strange hold on Serena.  They had a very warped past together, and Serena let him abuse her, and engage in some very twisted sexual acts.  Price was unscrupulous, and degraded, demoralized, and abused Serena.  She showed  signs of Stockholm Syndrome.  She defended, and was loyal to Price.  


I hated Price with a passion.  He was an egomaniac who was use to getting whatever he wanted.  He looked like a golden boy with his innocent physical beauty, and had built an empire of vast wealth.  However, underneath it all, he was cold, callous, calculating, and sadistic.  Price was every woman's worst nightmare, and I wanted to see Serena break free from his clutches.  Serena had major self-esteem issues, and was very weak.  I went back and forth between feeling angry towards her decision to put up with Price's abuse, and feeling sorry for her.  Sebastian was her modern day "knight in Shinning Armor."  He went to extremes to fulfill her eccentric sexual desires.  Sebastian loved Serena with all he was, and wanted her to be free to live her own life, pursue her passion in music composition, and be happy.  He offered her the perfect escape, and the more I got to know Sebastian, the more I liked him.  Sebastian was a world renowned music composer, who came from old money.  He had dark hair, blue eyes, and was the most desired eligible bachelor in the circles he ran.  However, he wanted no one but the elusive Serena.  He was in love with her, wanted to protect her, and get her away from Price.


The Innocent had a captivating plot.  There was never a dull moment in this story and it flew by.  The main characters were well developed, and held my attention, as I questioned their motives, and why they did what they did.  Some of the sexual situations made me uncomfortable, and they pushed the boundaries of typical behavior.  There was voyerism, abuse, eccentric fetishes, and role playing.  The descriptions were vivid, and explicit.  Ms. Gow is a very talented writer, and I look forward to reading some more of her other stories.  

My Rating:

I give The Innocent by Kailin Gow 4 Dark, Sexually Intense & Dramatic Stars!  This series is not for the mainstream.  It encompasses various twisted sexual fetishes, the mixture of pain and pleasure, and domination and subservience.  If you are in to that sort of thing, I would recommend The Protege Series.  However, if you are not, I would stay clear.  The writing and descriptions were superb, the plot twists kept delivering surprise after surprise, and the characters were fascinating and highly complex.  The Innocent stands out in the erotica genre.  Ms. Gow takes chances with this story, and gives the readers a story unlike any I've ever read before.

"The difference between the way Price manhandles you and the way I love you is that we were playing roles, we were both enjoying the game.  After the rough sex, I'm able to hold you in my arms and caress you.  I can make slow, tender love to you and show you that, while sex is hot and exciting, it is also loving.  You may act out the role of the sub for me, but you are the one in control.  You are the one dominating me."  (ARC, pg. 90)

...I sighed softly and did something I'd only read about in forbidden novels. I leant in, brushing my lips against his. The kiss was soft and chaste. It lasted no more than a mere second before I pulled back.

The second kiss was softer and satisfied both of our curiosities. My heart raced and my skin warmed to his touch. "I thought today was going to turn out so much worse," I confessed.

I pulled from his ticklish grasp, jumped from the couch and ran across the room in a fit of laughter. He quickly followed, jumping over the sofa as he was just inches from me. He was close now, smiling and trailing behind me as I ran toward the bedroom. It was probably the worst place I could go, trapped between Joshua and a mattress. I felt him tackle me down onto the plush bed, his hands skimmed my stomach but he was no longer tickling me. The laughter still hadn't subsided. 

"Breathe," Joshua said, staring intently at me. 

"Trying," I gasped between fits of laughter. Lying down helped settle the feeling of my racing heart, and after a moment I shifted along the mattress, reaching out to him. "I want to tell you a story," I insisted as my fingers found his cheek. "One I read in a book." I wanted him to learn the things I had about love and romance. I couldn't help but feel my body stir with a strange fire and warmth as he loomed just above me. Staring up at him I froze on the mattress hearing the latch click on the front door. I knew it had been locked.

Ruth Silver first began writing poetry as a teenager and reading heaps of fan fiction in her free time. She has written under three unique pseudo names and penned well over a hundred stories.

She attended Northern Illinois University in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication. While in college she spent much of her free time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, "Deuces are Wild", which she self-published in 2004. Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often handed in assignments longer than the professor required because she loved to write and always wanted to finish her stories.
