Book Review: Harmful Rush A Stand-Alone Novel (Remedy #3) by Debra Doxer

Harmful Rush
A Stand-Alone Novel
(Remedy #3)

Summary

Harmful Rush is a standalone, full-length novel set in the Remedy world. You do not have to read the first two books to read this book.

Skylark Samuels has a secret.

She’s not a normal teenager, although she plays one in real life. Pretending to be something you’re not isn’t easy, especially in high school where gossip is gold. For years, Sky manages to hide her uniqueness, until one fateful day when she exposes her gift, her curse, and all her fears come to pass. Now instead of going to college near home like she planned, she has to leave town and go someplace where the rumors can’t follow. The plan when she gets there: keep to herself and stay under the radar.

But blending into the background is impossible when local heartthrob Dylan Parks notices her. Even though Sky keeps her distance and doesn’t act like one of Dylan’s adoring fans, he goes out of his way to talk to her. Her. The girl who wants to be invisible.

Sky isn’t immune to Dylan’s charm, but getting close to him is a bad idea. It goes against the promise she made to herself. Besides, if Dylan knew the truth, he wouldn’t want her. If he discovered her secret, he’d treat her differently and possibly fear her. It’s happened before. But the more Sky gets to know Dylan, the harder it is to resist him, until fate intervenes.

A tragic event forces Sky to reveal herself to the one person she’s come to care for, and his reaction is unexpected. For the first time, she doesn’t feel so alone. But what she doesn’t realize is that she’s never been alone. When she finally lets her guard down, someone comes along who threatens to unravel everything, because being normal was never Sky’s destiny.

Gifts That Help Ought To Not Be Taken Advantage of

My, my, my, goodness. It has been a very long time since I’ve been in the world of the Remedy Series. Harmful Rush delivers one hundred percent. This is marked as a standalone but I knew there had to be a connection to my beloved Ray. Doxer has a way with words that will absolutely enthrall you. Her characters are not only relatable but they feel real. Hands down I feel like I know this wonderful cast but at the same time they are a wonderful escape. I’m not certain who Doxer has doing her covers but they are obviously Magic. Hands down her covers are always exceptional and just as enthralling as her writing. I could stare at them all day and I dare you to argue! Is it selfish to say I want more? I hope not because I do…That’s the best part of re-reads…The trio of books in the Remedy series are definitely books I could see myself visiting again.

The Story, get ready to fall in love with all things. This book starts off with a bang and let me tell you! Nothing else will get in the way of finishing this book. I fought life, hunger, sleep all the things just so I could finish this book. The beginning was so captivating and different from any other reads, I was hooked. I got slapped across the face with this book so fast that I didn’t even have time to post about it on GoodReads. I went to my currently reading…then to my read…and lo and behold it was still sitting in my to read shelf! I digress Sky was wonderful her life has been very sheltered and she doesn’t know who she is or why she is. She has a heart that bleeds for everyone a betrayal will change all of her plans and everything she knew.

The Characters, Sky harbors a secret and learning to trust is very difficult for her. I enjoyed her humanitarian heart but also her spark and fire. She is not one to back off and she holds her ground when others would falter she is steadfast. Her adoptive father was very protective of her secret and he begged Sky never to let it leave her lips again. I just adored the dynamic she had with her newfound friends. They were actually the ones always wanting to include Sky and make her feel like she was truly loved and welcome in their little duo. Cue the ultra-awesome stud muffin aka Dylan! He saw Skylark and he felt a pull so strong he would stop at nothing to know her better. I loved the banter they had, I loved the way their relationship developed and I LOVED how he was with her. I could not get enough of these two!

The End, this is a standalone but the connections I mentioned earlier all spring up towards the end. Throughout the whole book I kept wanting to guess ahead to figure out what would happen…I did not figure it out but when its revealed man all the feels…All of the magical holy smokes I want more feels came pouring to the surface. This is where the rubber meets the road. Sky takes a huge risk and reveals all of her cards. A confrontation will have you gasping through the pages! I didn’t devour this book I inhaled it…one sitting…and done. Adios…something very touching brings Sky much needed closure and I could not be happier for my girl! The connections and the closure is there. I don’t know if this is the end of the Remedy series because it could very well be but as a major fan I hope it’s not. I want More More More!!!

My Rating

4.5 Always love with all of your heart filled stars!

Synopsis:

She kept everyone from harm, except herself…

Raielle’s life was shrouded in secrets. Her power was a secret and so was her past. When she came to Fort Upton, everything changed. She discovered her family, and she found the boy who would own her heart forever. But it couldn’t last. Knowing so little about her power nearly destroyed her. She had to leave and break both their hearts.

Now she’s back in California, and she doesn’t have to hide who she is anymore. But there is no relief in that because she’s drowning in regret. She knew it would take a miracle or a sin to save her, and there was no miracle. Her survival came at too high a price. She found her father, but she can’t go back to Lucas until she finds redemption.

She saved him. Then she left him…

She came out of nowhere and changed him forever, then she disappeared and left him reeling. Her whole life, she never had anyone who really loved her. Until him. Did she think he wouldn’t come for her? Did she believe she wasn’t worth it?

Lucas leaves everything behind to follow Raielle. When he finds her, she’s a pale shadow of the girl he remembers. Her power is betraying her and so are the people around her, but one thing hasn’t changed. She selflessly wants to save the world, and he just wants to save her.

With more secrets to uncover and dark truths to face, Raielle and Lucas must make sacrifices for each other. But in the end, will those sacrifices bring them closer together or tear them apart? When he’s forced to make the ultimate sacrifice, will she turn her back on everything she believes in to save him again?

Keep You from Harm (Remedy, #1)

To Have and to Harm (Remedy, #2)

The Way I See It
I fell in love with Raielle and Lucas in the first Remedy series and I must say the love runs deep. Ms Doxer does an amazing job of keeping the reader engaged. The level of mystery was astonishingly well devised. What I mean by that is I knew stuff was going to happen and secrets were going to be revealed and every single execution was perfect! I want to say there will be more and I cant wait to see what happens next but everything so far seems to be okay. This book does not suffer a slump at all. Everything that happens in Remedy #2 is intense and well developed. I’ve come to be a huge fan of Doxer’s writing and regardless of what she releases I will be following closely.

T-omorrow, was never a promise Raielle had to leave Lucas she loved him to much to stay.
O-nly, Lucas is a fighter he will never give up on Raielle even if it means turning his life upside down he knows where he belongs. By her side.

H-ope, turning to the only person left in the world who can help her is not an easy task, because he is the same man who abandoned her to begin with.
A-lone, all of her life Raielle has felt different but now she finds herself surrounded by people with the same abilities as her.
V-ice, having another half brother should be happy news for her but he is a vile hurtful being. Shane enjoys hurting Ray too much. His despise goes beyond childhood trauma.
E-scape, Ray has made a friend since arriving in a new town knowing her new found family is shaky at best Raielle finds the need to get away.

A-pollo, sent to take care of Ray he has been watching over her most of her life. When the betrayal comes it cuts deep.
N-ews, Ray has a shaky relationship with her father. Finding a friend Grant will take Raielle to someone who can give her answers.
D-etermination, Grant knows in his heart he wants Raielle they are alike. Ray has given her heart to Lucas but Grant will always be there to take care of her and protect her.

T-ogether, the thought of being apart is unfathomable Lucas and Ray are prepared to fight whatever evil may be in their way.
O-pportunity, destroying evil should come easily but Grant and Lucas fear for Raielle they will devise an alternate solution.

H-elp, trapped in an impossible situation Raielle will have to tap into herself to find the answer that no one thought was possible.
A-gainst, Ray has been presented with her destiny but none of it is what she wants. Taking control of her life Ray makes the commitment to love and live happily.
R-ealization, Raielle’s ability to help is a part of her core. Turning away from it completely, is impossible with Lucas’ help she will figure out a way to balance the two.
M-istakes, life hasn’t been easy for Ray she is tired of letting the past haunt her. She knows who she is and will embrace her gift. Prepared for what the future holds.

So! No cliffhanger ending breath easy y’all. I enjoyed learning more about Ray’s abilities and watching her character grow was great. From the first page we are taken through twists and turns. Ups and downs and true heartache along with crushing betrayals. Okay so I know Ray is generally pretty happy by the end but I feel as though a part of her is missing. She can be so much more and I want her to embrace it. This has been a GREAT read I highly highly recommend it.

My Fav’s

Raielle
She goes through some pretty big changes. She is a victim of really awful circumstances and those she trusts deeply are the ones who want to hurt her the most. Ray’s ability to love and not hold grudges are truly admirable. Ya she TOTALLY embraces her power and its beyond imaginable. Now all I want is for her to accept her destiny…fingers crossed?

Lucas
UM YEA super sexy knows what he wants, will not take substitutions, and he's an arrogant arse about it. Being with Ray is something that has lodged into his soul he cannot give up on their love being together through everything is the only thing that makes sense.

My Rating

4.5 Phone Message, Road Trip, CPR, UCLA, Donut Delivery, New Friend, Lost Love, Forged Alliance, Outcasted Guidance, Bloodline History, Gunshots, Stolen Gift, Determined Friend, Heart, Healing, Stealing, Running, Finding Happiness Love filled stars. I hope this isn’t the end bit if it is Ray is happy and in love. I most absolutely recommend this series!!!

About Keep You From Harm (Remedy Series 1)
Secrets…

They weigh you down. I’ve kept a secret all my life. It’s my mother’s secret, too. I inherited it from her along with a unique ability that only we possess. She’s gone now, another victim of addiction. If her death isn’t enough to bring me to my knees, her betrayal flays me to the bone. Because the secret my mother and I have been keeping is just one of many she’d kept. She never told me I have an older brother. And now he’s here, eager to be my guardian.

There is no one else. So I move across the country to live with this stranger, my brother. But experience has taught me that most situations are temporary and forming attachments only leads to hurt in the end. That’s why I’m determined to keep to myself in this new place, struggling to seem aloof while I’m quietly breaking apart.

Then I meet Lucas…

His magnetism is hard to resist, and most girls at school aren’t resisting. I don’t fall so easily though, especially not for guys who use their good looks as a weapon. From the start, our interactions are tense and volatile. I know it’s because I’m denying the unwelcome desire that grips me when he’s near. I think he feels it, too. He looks at me with an intensity that threatens to unhinge my resolve. Soon he’s trying to break through the walls that past hurts have built.

But I’m not what I appear to be, and it wouldn’t be fair to get involved with him. At least that’s what I tell myself. Until a terrible act of violence reveals that Lucas has a secret, too. It’s a secret that links us together and ties us to an evil history I could never have imagined.

The Way I See It

Keep You From Harm is Sooooo Unbelievably AWESOME definitely one you must try! I’m one of those people as you all know by now that “Judges Books By Their Cover” I’m not shy about it. Its a Fact, plain and simple. When I saw the cover I was blown AWAY! I knew I had to get my little hands on it! As Soon As Possible. Let me tell you it Does NOT disappoint! The cover is super mysterious as is the story I kept guessing and guessing what was going to happen next. The writing was gripping and it will keep you engaged.

K-
id, Raielle has not had a pretty childhood dealing with abandonment and a cooky mother has messed up her chances at normalcy.
E-
ventful, Raielle is used to the hustle and bustle of her very active apartment building this evening it seems eerily silent.
E-
ssence, something is off. Raielle finds out in the most shocking way there is nothing she can do to save the person who was finally be saving herself.
P-
olice, a young detective reveals Raielle is not alone in this world. Kyle her brother(she never knew about) wants to take her into his home.

Y-
oung, but astute Raielle knows her options are limited. Moving across the country seems like one of the only ways to achieve her ultimate dream.
O-
utcast, Myles is sweet and charming he will make Raielle feel welcome. Her beauty has given her popularity with the boys and a target on her back with the girls.
U-
nwelcome, Raielle is not used to certain attentions she will do what she can to keep the creepers away.

F-
orce, so many emotions whirl around its hard for Raielle to keep her guard up rejecting her impulses is crippling.
R-
ude, Raielle knows Lucas was the one she was drawn to her first night in town. For some reason he acts like he has no clue who she is and gives her a cold shoulder.
O-
bstacle, a night out with friends Raielle knows Lucas is unavailable moving on she runs into someone she should not recognize, yet she does. His eyes widen with recognition, if it weren’t for the bouncer, Lucas and her friends she would have ran to the “stranger”.
M-
ysteries, so much has happened Raielle doesn’t know what she will uncover next. One thing is for sure EVERYTHING Raielle thought was wrong.

H-
ope, correcting two wrongs created by evil Raielle feels like perhaps she can be normal. This dream doesn’t last long when she realizes she must make a difficult sacrifice.
A-
lone, Raielle has to find out more about who she is this is her last chance before fate takes the remaining of her strength away.
R-
esigned, a familiar face comes back to remind her of who she is and the potential of who she can become. Ray is forced into a corner and must make a tough decision.
M-
eter, Raielle’s is just about out. When you dive in the deep end you have to learn to swim or you drown...Raielle has one choice.

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about a cliffhanger!! holy moly WTF?! I’m like frantically dying until I can get my hands on the next one! When does it come out? Whats it going to be titled? I’m DYING! This was quite the enjoyable thrill ride Ms Doxer’s writing will hook you the way it hooked me.

My Fav’s

Raielle
Hands down without a doubt this girl is super kick a$$ without actual a$$ kicking but still a ninja master! Her life hasn’t been easy but she has worked so hard and kept her head down she can almost feel her dreams come true. Raielle does have a super power, the power of detachment. She knows how to distance herself from people and situations this has always helped her adapt she is beyond smart and I can’t wait to see all of the amazing things she is destined for. Being surrounded by her family has made her a bit vulnerable so she opens up. I love how strong willed she is and she really doesn’t take any Sh** from anyone. AWESOME SAUCE!!

Lucas
I love his name and his personality. He has a certain aura about him that will draw you in. I know he is instrumental and I can’t wait to find out exactly how much! I cant wait to see how his character develops. I’m totally looking forward to it!

My Rating

4.25 Junk Mail, Kitchen Table, Bloody Hair, Neighbor Next door, Advanced Courses, Hallway Confrontation, Scoops Ice Cream, Driving Lessons, Bridge Lookout, Prom, Forgiveness, Love accepting filled stars!!!
