The Way I See It

The word I would use to describe Death’s Lover is Mysterious. I’m a big fan of Marie Hall’s contemporary trilogy so I was a little hesitant. Let me explain, it has been my experience that when I enjoy an authors work in one genre reading something in a different genre by the same author is usually lacking. For the purpose of anonymity I won’t mention any names but its true if I love an authors paranormal then read a contemporary book by them its lacking. Or vise versa if I love an authors contemporary then read their paranormal I find it lacking.  What’s a girl to do? So you can see my hesitation. Boy was I ever WRONG! Marie Hall has mad skills, as much as I love her Moments Series I not once thought about it during this read!! There is no comparison between the two because they are soooooo different while still maintain the essence of love, loss, despair, and strength to overcome. Death’s Lover was an amazing story with a powerful love and sensational supers! I enjoyed all of the characters and the mystery behind the story. I’m excited about continuing this series.

D-esires, Eve has an amazing life with a man she loves though she has been haunted by dreams she never expected her life to change during a shopping trip.

E-nchanted, Cian has never seen a woman so beautiful and captivating, yet he knows happiness isn’t something for him.  He has a job to do but the desperation of the woman who truly sees him is too much for him, he cannot say goodbye.

A-bhor, Chaos refuses to accept insolence. This fae will see to it that all strings are cut, loose ends tied up, and balance is met. She will call upon a trusted fae to help her with this task.

T-ime, years later the lines have been drawn and wagers have been made. Altering time is something Dagda has never done. Chaos knows something is going on but she refuses to lose.

H-inder, sent by the queen Frenzy will find a way to finish what Cian could not accomplish. A promise was made, Frenzy has bought some time for Cian and Eve but he cannot ignore his responsibilities. He will do what it takes to restore balance.

S-urprise, seeing Cian for the first time is very overwhelming for Eve. There are great forces at work, she has never felt this way before. Cian’s heart swells every time Eve is near he does not understand his feelings but he knows there is nothing he can do to fight them.

L-ies, Cian has a dark past he doesn’t want to taint his beautiful witch but he needs to figure out a way to save her soon. Everyone is pushing them together but it breaks Cian’s heart that he cannot tell her what he is.

O-pportunity, Frenzy has been lurking in the shadows doing what he must to keep Eve at bay. No one knows of his plan and it is working marvelously. All that is left is for time to run out then he will strike with stealth.

V-ice, a love more powerful than imaginable has caused Cian more pain than anything he has ever experienced in all his years. The lies have destroyed the trust he has to do something to restore the balance before his love is lost to the world.

E-thereal, the forces that give power can also take it away. Chaos is left to her affairs plenty but something more serious hangs in the balance. She has gotten the death she desires and balance is restored. Through the gloating and scheming, Chaos discovers she did not win after all.

R-esolve, debts have been paid balance restored but much is left to be done. The powers that create want to destroy and start over. Lise will do what it takes to see make sure that is not what happens.

Eeeeeeep So Good I Tell Ya! Adult paranormal at it’s finest. There is a whole cast Witches, Vamps, Shifters...and FAE!!!  Each character provided an excellent detail to the story. I hope we get to see more of them. Eve’s sisters were spellbinding and every one she came across. There is a good deal of mystery the answer is hinted but not revealed till the end. Death’s Lover was absolutely gripping; I could see this story playing like a movie in my head. Marie Hall’s world building is just right. Not too much detail, but with the descriptions given it was just right. I’m really pumped about this series there are some things I would like to see happen, fingers crossed. I def recommend this!

My Favs

Eve

OMG she is like the ultimate girl ever! Wow her character was fun sassy saucy and sexy! I fell in love with her right away. Losing Michael was very hard for her and my heart went out to her because of her pain. It was palpable. Seriously her personality had me smiling she is a sultry go getter! Not perfect because she does make a few mistakes. Eve’s spirit is so bright and enthralling we know right away the mistakes she made where just that. Mistakes.

Cian

Hold.The.Phone…This guy is AWESOMESAUCE!! From the very first page we are hit with tons and tons of redeeming qualities. There were a couple of times I wanted to shake him because he refused to see what was right infront of him! Good News! I never had to cause Eve would step right in and take no prisoners. I was so relieved when he finally GOT IT! Lol he didn’t realize until the end everything he did was right. Cian tortured himself for the lies and for letting Eve down I have never met a character like him and though he suffered dearly I was happy to see things end the way they did!

The Way I See It

Thats IT!! I love the Eternal Lovers Series!! This is Frenzy’s story and Marie Hall has knocked it out of the park once again! After reading Death’s Lover I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about reading Frenzy’s story but the transition was marvelous. This can be read as a stand alone but I’m pretty anal about reading books in order so I most absolutely recommend this series. Marie Hall has built an amazing world where Fates meet Fae and even in the norm things are never what they seem. We find out more about the makeup of this fantastic world. We learn more about Lise and her sisters. We also learn more about Chaos, the queen of the Fae. One thing I was a bit sad about was not hearing from Cian and Eve, we didn’t cross their paths at all. That helped with making these two stories stand alone-ish so I totally understand BUT it would’ve been great. None the less Frenzy and Mila’s story was sultry sexy and I couldn't get enough of these two.


D-elicate, Mila’s future is in her hands as long as she can escape her pursuers. A moment she could not change but she would prevent harm befalling an innocent. Now she has revealed herself and she must run.
E-ager, Lise and her sisters will work to make sure things that need to fall into place will do so. The balance of things is still off but with a few little nudges Lise believes order may be restored.
A-lone, Mila knows her time has come she is tired of running now her only hope is to bait her enemy’s into taking her life.
T-ired, Frenzy comes from a very dark place. A long time ago something was taken from him. A certain madness befell his mind since that time Frenzy has been a shell where the only things he knows are anger and hate.
H-eed, Frenzy has a job to do he will wait out the creatures in order to get it done. Sick of the pain and anger he will tell his queen he is done.
S-ummoned, Lise knows what must take place she will task Frenzy with keeping Mila safe.


R-evulsion, Mila cannot stand what she’s become. For so long she has fought for the week against the monsters. Her mind and heart are at war.
E-ndanger, Frenzy discovers exactly what has Mila so terrified he will face the monster to buy them some time.
D-estiny, Mila’s bloodline has been coveted for centuries. Keeping herself safe has always been her goal but she is tired of being alone.
E-xcitement, things are so new for Mila she is a different person. Frenzy will do what it takes for her it seems Mila’s firecracker personality has found its way to his heart.
M-ore, what started off as a job has developed into true love. The passion and interaction these two have has been the fates goal all along.
P-romise, with every ounce of his being Frenzy will never leave Mila’s side regardless of the danger ahead living without Mila would be much worse.
T-rust, Chaos has shown her cards it is up to Mila to rid the world of a dark force. Everyones hands are tied as much as Frenzy would like to do this it can only be Mila.
I-nexplicable, a perfect union can only happen once Frenzy has found his mate and Mila could not be happier. Sharing ones soul only happens once.
O-pportunity, Mila has made a binding deal now she must face her darkest nightmares. She will face the darkness with love by her side.
N-ear, things are starting to fall into place Lise has impressed her sisters though it seems there are still things that need to be accomplished.

OMgee that ending! Loved it! I have to admit I wasn’t sure how Ms Hall would pull off the connection between these two hot heads but it was perfect! We are introduced to new characters even though I missed quite a few from the previous novel they were great! I’m hoping we will get to see from all of these wonderful characters again. This can be read as a stand alone but don't miss out on either story. So far Ms. Hall has done an amazing job with these different yet very intriguing story lines. I cant wait to see what she throws our way next! This series is absolutely killer I cant wait to see more!

My Favs

Frenzy
Talk about a chip on your shoulder. LOL jk but seriously he is still haunted by a love that was ripped from him driving him insane. Due to the actions of another reaper he finds himself on the streets ready to call it quits, just then he is introduced to a set of enchanting eyes that remind him so much of the past. I loved getting to know Frenzy his determination and the way he got under Mila’s skin made me laugh. I knew from the beginning these two were cut from the same cloth. It was nice to him figure out just how much Mila truly meant to him. Saying goodbye to his past was difficult but in order to move on its something he had to do.

Mila
Such a hot headed little firecracker! Lol I was surprised she was not a red head herself! I fell in love with her personality right away giving up her own safety to save the life of an innocent takes great courage. She was a hellion with a take no prisoner personality. I enjoyed watching her open up to Frenzy and letting him in. Once she realized she wasn’t alone we got to see a whole new side to her. Watching her strength resonate through the pages was amazing and the love she shared with Frenzy absolutely enchanting!

Lindy's Thoughts:

When I first began the Moment series, I recognized that there was something very special about Ms. Hall's writing.  She had a way of hooking me in to the story, and completely gaining my undivided attention.  As I have continued this series, I have realized that Ms. Hall is very talented, because she continues to touch my heart with her stories, makes me desperate for more, and I never want them to end.

In, This Time, we get the third book in the Moments series.  This is Jamie (Zoe's best friend), and Tor's story.  Wow, what can I say, but that this story was fantastic!  I devoured it, and didn't even want to take bathroom breaks, I was so into the story.  Jamie has been in love with Angel, her high school sweetheart for many years.  He was a great guy, and she had her future all planned out with marriage, the white picket fence, and children.  Unfortunately, after Angel is in a car accident, he sustains some brain damage, and enters in to a deep and dark depression.  Jamie stands by his side, and becomes extremely close to his mother, father, and sister.  The become a surrogate family, because her parents take off for the peace corps when she is eighteen years old, keep in limited touch, and only visit her once every two years.  Angel becomes addicted to drugs, and alcohol.  He sleeps around with women, and even though Jamie and him break up on and off, she is still always there for him and his family, to her detriment.

Tor is always in the background.  He works in the same tattoo parlor as Jamie's best friend, Zoe, and is a drummer his band, Fok.  He see's her from a distance, and gets to know her over the years.  Tor is always waiting for his chance, the day when Jamie will finally let go of Angel for good, and he can step in and get to know her.  His opportunity comes when Angel overdoses on drugs for the second time.  He was found with another woman in his car.  Jamie is tired of the back and forth with Angel.  His family calls her to get to the hospital.  Instead, Tor finally makes a move on her, and she accepts his offer for one night of passion, no strings attached.  She needs an escape from her life, and can't resist the sexy Norwegian, that looks like a Viking God.  Tor wants more than one night of sex with Jamie; but decides to take it slow, not pressure her, and make her fall in love with him.  They have one wild and unforgettable night  that will change their lives forever.

I can't possible explain how much I loved Tor.  He melted my heart and turned it in to a puddle of goo.  He had these sweet little Norwegian nicknames for Jamie, that had me swooning.  He had the full package and was ever girls dream guy, including mine.  He had the looks, the body, and the personality!  Tor was all about Jamie.  He only had eyes for her, and would do anything for her.  She was "his woman," and his top priority.  He cherished her, loved her, took care of her, and completely gave her his heart.  Ladies, Tor will make you rethink your love of bad boys!  He was a rare gem.  You will fall in love with him!  It is impossible not too.

I understood Jamie's struggle with Angel, and his family.  She was a sweet person, and felt guilt, responsibility, and a large burden concerning him.  She didn't want to let his family down and kept hoping that he would return to being the person he was before the accident.  However, with Tor entering her life, she had no choice, but to fall in love.  They developed a strong and loyal friendship, shared their painful pasts with one another, and were there for each other.

We also get Zoe and Alex in this story!  I love them so much, and was excited to see how they were doing, and catch up with them three years later.  However, we didn't get any Lili, Ryan, and Javi in this story.  The plot of the story was extremely exciting.  Besides the romance, sexual tension, and passionate love affair between Jamie and Tor, we get a wild card in Angel.  Let's just say his character kept things very interesting.  There were some plot-twists and surprises in the story, as well as some predictable, but beautiful moments!    

My Rating:

Read, This Time, by Marie Hall!  It was phenomenal, and I could not put it down!  Even though it is part of the Moments series, each book is about different characters, and can be read as a stand alone.  You will love the whole series!  However, This Moment, is my favorite story, in the whole series!  I highly, highly, recommend it for romance lovers.  This Time, by Marie Hall, was such a beautiful and breathtaking read.  If you are looking for a tantalizing, and addictive story with substance, look no further!  If you read This Time, I would love you to message me your thoughts!  I can't possible tell you how amazing this book was, you need to experience this story for yourself.  I give, This Time, by Marie Hall, 5 Must-Read, Intoxicating, Captivating, Rapid Heart-Beating, Beloved Stars!!!

The Way Ria See's It:

OH MY SH*%!!! That seriously just happened!! It did!! I am so lucky to just have happened to stumble upon A Moment the first novel in the Moments series and I KNEW!! It would be amazing!! After reading the first I couldn't wait for the second then the third!! This Time WAS BLOODY AMAZING!!! I cannot stress how versatile and captivating each story has been. I’m happy to say This Time had everything from heart break, self discovery, shattered dreams, overcoming fears, and achieving true love. Tor and Jamie experienced so much pain throughout their lives it seemed as though Jamie was the one who had the most to let go of. Tor was the ever-present dutiful man Jamie needed. Sigh this series has been amazing.

T-houghts, for so long Tor has wanted Jamie to notice him this night he will make her see. Jamie is lost and though her heart wants her somewhere else her mind purposely pushes her in front of Tor.

H-elp, Jamie has loved Angel longer than she can remember through all of the pain and all of the whoring Jamie must remain a constant in his life. Should one day Angel wake up and realize his mistakes everyone will be by his side supporting his struggle.

I-ndependent, strong and fierce Jamie now carries a huge burden with her. Zoe her best friend will do what it takes to make sure Jamie finds the happiness she so deserves. Even if it means a small betrayal. 

S-uspended, Tor’s life is about to change in a big way. He has lost before and he refuses to do so again. Jamie has touched his heart and he knows he must fight for her.

T-rust, Tor knows Jamie has been broken thus he will do what it takes to mend her spirit. Tor will teach Jamie its okay to love and to risk her heart for the man that would do anything for her.

I-mmeasurable, Tor knows he loves Jamie deeply his actions and his sacrifices for her don’t go unnoticed. Understanding and caring Tor will show Jamie how to love again. 

M-istakes, Angel is crushed and destroyed he doesn’t understand that he does not love Jamie but he will use her as a crutch. Faced with the agony of almost losing everything Tor will confront Angel once and for all. Jamie has sacrificed enough the time has come for her to think of herself and her future.

E-ndearing, a close call almost tears everything apart. Tor’s princess will show him life is a gift and with Jamie by his side there is nothing these two cant overcome.

EGADS!!!

This was such a touching and endearing read I could not get enough! Hall’s writing is seamless she will captivate and pull you into this amazing world. So many of the characters have been through so much in this series it was a delight to see them truly happy. I highly recommend this series I cannot stress that enough.

My Fav’s:

Jamie

Wow! Talk about a character who is so amazing she puts everyone’s happiness and well being in front of her own. For so long she scarified every ounce of her soul to be by Angel. She is kind, loving, honest, and loyal to a fault. Jamie loves fiercely so it was a nice treat to see her fall head over heals for Tor.

Tor

This heart throb viking loves fiercely. There was a day when he didn’t think he would ever catch the eye of the one girl he knew he could love for eternity. Tor’s commitment and respect he had for all of Jamie’s decisions was endearing to say the least. I immediately fell for this couple and cheered them on till the very end. There was a time or two that Jamie let her demons get the best of her. With a love like Tor’s by her side there is no way she would ever betray that.

My Wish 

Okay so super sexy tattoo parlor owner Ryko has made many mistakes including letting Zoe go. I would love nothing more than this larger than life character finding someone just right for him. I would love for Ms Hall to write such a story. Her prose is amazing I can see her writing the perfect story about Ryko.

I cannot recommend this series enough. If you are a fan of super sexy and romantic reads this series is for you!!!

Ro's Take on this Journey:

This Time, by Marie Hall, the third novel in the Moments Series is the, "Cherry on Top" for this series.  I loved every moment in this last segment.  I found my eyes glued to the pages.  I didn't want to stop for anything.  In, This Time, we get the story line of a threesome: Tor Boler, (Tattoo shop owner and Drummer for the band, Fok),  Jamie Sullivan, (Independent writer/editor), and Angel Romero, (Drug/Alcohol addicted, Cheating... long time boyfriend of Jamie.) 

Jamie has been coupled with Angel since her Junior year in high school.  His family has been a surrogate family for her long lost mother and father, that have dedicated their lives to the Peace Corps, and left her on her own since she was 18.  Lovers, with plans of going to college together, getting married and raising a family, everything got shot to hell two weeks out of high school.  Angel and Jamie were in a car, coming home from a party, when they were hit by a drunk driver.  Angel got a bad blow to the head, internal bleeding, and some brain damage, that changed him forever.

Angel lived differently, lost his sweet disposition, and became a cheater.  Twice in two years he overdoses on drugs.  Little by little, Angel goes from soft drugs, up the pyramid to the most destructive drugs possible, and adds to his brain damage. He and Jamie have not physically been together for over a year, but are always in contact with each other.  Jamie always looks out for Angel, though he breaks her heart, over and over again with other women.  He doesn't care that his destructive path is killing her and his mother, and putting his family in a position that is irreversible.

Tor has noticed Jamie over the years, been interested in her, watched her heart get broken over the years, but never stepped in.  Jamie's best friend, Zoe, works with Tor, at the Tattoo Parlor.  On the night of Angel's second overdose, that has left him in a coma, Jamie comes to the club, and Tor see's her run out the back.  He takes his moment, and never looks back.  The two of them have a night of lust, passion, trust, need, desire, that is incomparable.

Throughout the novel, the secrets of Tor's haunting past come to light, Jamie's issues with letting go of Angel and his family, along with all her self induced guilt.  The two are thrown a curve ball or two.  Throughout all the self doubt, guilt, drama, trauma, and life changing events, Tor is always loyal and by Jamie's side.  He is there first as her friend always, and second as the man that is completely devoted to her, and loves her with all his heart.  

Both of these characters will melt your heart, and leave you with the desire to find such a loving, loyal, relationship as they shared.  Tor is hot fire on a stick, lick-able in every way! Ms. Hall has hit a home run with the series, and especially with this third segment in, The Moments Series.  Her story is superb, with her prose on point, her characters memorable, and her style is one you will come to recognize time and time again for the quality she produces.

A Moment was such a wonderful story--one of my absolute favorites! So, when I got the opportunity to read and review, Right Now, I was ecstatic! Right Now, is the sequel in the Moments Series, and is told from Alex (Ryan's Cousin) and Zoe's dual perspectives. I was pleasantly surprised to see the continuation of Ryan, and Lili's story. I had missed them, and Lili's adorable little son Javy. Ryan, Lili, Javy, and Alex really came together to make up a strong, cohesive, loyal, and loving little family. The icing on the cake was adding the exotic, beautiful, sassy, and independent Zoe in to the mix. 

Alex is falling apart after Ryan is in the process of healing, and finding happiness with Lili and Javy. For so long, Alex's purpose was to watch out for Ryan, and be there for him. Now that Ryan is doing better, Alex is left to deal with his own demons, and the way he deals with them is to do what it takes to not feel. He copes by engaging in excessive drinking, and casual sex. Alex has never been a one woman kind of man, and has never had a series relationship. Everything changes when after getting a fortune cookie that reads, "Be Opposite," he decides to enter a tattoo parlor. When he walks in, he encounters a beautiful woman with tattoos all over her body. that beautiful woman is Zoe, who recognizes him as her high school crush. After Alex meets Zoe, he can't get her out of his mind and pursues her. However, she's determined not to be another one of his flings, and he's determined to let her know that she is special to him. 

I loved Right Now, because it tugged on my heartstrings. It was so difficult being inside of Alex's head and seeing all of the guilt, and burdens that he placed on his shoulders. I loved how Zoe was strong, and independent. Even though she was in love with Alex, she let him know that she was different from all of his conquests. She demanded respect from him, and stood up to her family when they tried to pigeon hold her in to who they wanted her to be. Her parents tried to control her life and bully Alex, but she stood firm and let them know their actions were unacceptable. I loved Zoe, and how she brought out the best in Alex, and helped to heal his heart. Read the Moments Series, you will devour both, A Moment, and Right Now. I don't want this series to ever end.

I give Right Now by Marie Hall 4 emotional, passionate, courageous, and transformative stars! You will love the main characters Alex, and Zoe, as well as be glad to reconnect with Lili, Ryan, and Javy. This is a series filled with angst, personal demons, healing, discovering real love, and taking charge of your life. New Adult Contemporary fans that enjoy Colleen Hoover's stories will enjoy the Moments series, because while the subject matter can be emotional and difficult to read, it also makes for a beautiful story!

The Way Ria Sees It

Marie Hall does it again! I LOVED Right Now! All of the characters touched my heart! This is a page turner and tear jerker. I knew I’d love Alex cause I already did from Ms. Hall’s previous book, A Moment.  Now my surprise love was for Zoe! I also disliked Hated some characters, like all of the stupid parents! UGH!  Losers and A holes! If it wasn’t for Zoe being such a special person Alex would have been lost.

R-yan is better.  He is healing and working on regaining himself. Alex feels lost like he doesn’t know who he is now that Ryan no longer needs him.
I-nnocence, a young girl with a hopeless love unrequited and unknown.  Zoe has had feelings for a boy who never saw her.
G-entle, like a mom Alex’s doc helps him cut through the crap to get to the truth and pave his way through these uncertain times.
H-eat, it's no mistake Alex and Zoe have a chemistry that jumps off the pages.
Turmoil, Alex has been self-sabotaging for a long time. Life is going to confront him now and he will have to fight his fears.

N-othing without Zoe. Alex can't imagine breathing.  She is his air and his calm. There is no “without” her.  He will fight for them he cannot lose her.
O-pen, all the confrontations are outwards and are spoken. Truths are revealed. Forgiveness is not possible, but at least all those evil secrets are out.
W-edding, seeing Ryan marry Lili gives Alex hope that he too will have that happiness one day. Now, it's time to work towards that goal and prove to everyone how deep his love runs.

This dealt with a very sad and dark subject.  The main characters had to face their darkest fears. I think Ms. Hall did a marvelous job tiddying everything up.  The ending was PERFECT!! I couldn’t have been happier for these characters that took a piece of my heart.

My Favs

Zoe
I loved her because of the way she loved... She loved her family and her friends with brutal strength. I love girls who kick butt and with out kicking “actual” butt Zoe kicks butt!! She’s a total bada$$ If I had HALF of the courage she does I’d be sleeved! Sadly, I’m a little chicken nugget, and don’t have what it takes... :( I love that she was able to see past Alex’s mask and see who he was and how deep his pain ran. This girl was perfect for Alex and I couldn’t be happier that he found her.

Alex
I loved him because he was a HONEST womanizer...Sure he never denied it! He never hid anything about him.  He was straight with Zoe. Okay, okay so he kept a pretty big secret from her, BUT he came through and opened up! Yay! Now that was love...I knew it would take a special gal, and I was so excited to meet and fall in love with Zoe!

My Wish

I want Tor and Jamie to totally fall in love, "head over heals," and have little Viking babies!!

My Rating

4.5 Movie theater, High School, Fortune Cookie, Tattoo Parlor, Jealous Boss, Misaki, Lotus, Obasaan, butterfly, haha, pond swim, family bbq, doctor visit, calla lily, mending heart filled stars!! For an emotional heart tugging read I highly recommend THIS BOOK!

What is the most challenging aspect about writing contemporary romance and what is the most rewarding?

Zoe

The Magic 8 Ball. It's her way of letting her man know if she's in the mood tonight or not. If you see the "yes" then get ready because she's an animal. 

The butterfly at her hip. Reading the book, you'll note that her mother calls her butterfly, only very rarely, but it's a sign of deep affection. Zoe feels a lot like that butterfly, sometimes delicate, but a fighter to the core. That tattoo was her first one and was symbolic of her popping out of the chrysalis a new woman and ready to take flight.

She's also covered in lotus flowers, the meaning to her is very significant. Within Buddhism it symbolizes rising and blooming above the murk to achieve enlightenment. Zoe's enlightenment came when she realized she could no longer try to conform to what her parents wanted her to be.

Writing

The most challenging aspect of writing contemporary romance is that it's really got to ring true. I'm all about realism, writing characters you could literally bump into at your corner coffee shop. I don't know anything about being a billionaire tycoon, but I know what it's like to struggle from pay check to pay check, to have to deal with sick kids, the burden of sick family members. So for me the most challenging aspect is making you think this character I'm writing about is real. Not just a caricature drawn up in my head, but somebody you could literally be working out next to in the gym. The most rewarding part is when I succeed at that. When I get fan letters telling me how real it was, how deeply it moved them, how much they sympathized and could relate to my characters. That's the most fun part of my job.
