Book Synopsis:

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

My Review

My Thoughts:

Ok, Ms. Black, you have killed me with that ending!!!  When, oh when do I get to read the next book?  I don't think I can wait another year.  You are most definitely a queen of surprises.  This series just keeps getting better!

I love Jude!  She has a warrior's spirit.  No matter how difficult, painful or challenging things get, she rises to the occasion.  She is so smart and an excellent strategist.  I enjoyed being inside her head, seeing how she would get out of dangerous situations and complex conundrums.  It was awesome watching her outwit, outsmart, and outmaneuver her enemies.

I also love how Cardin is so much more than he appears or let's others see.  He plays the lazy, overindulgent king so well, and yet he is witty and a master at plotting and planning as well.  The absolute best thing about this book though is that Jude and Cardin have met their match in one another.  They challenge each other, and make such a great team; if only they could trust in each other, and not get in their own way.

The Wicked King had more danger, deceit, manipulation, magic, action, strategy, and romance then it's predecessor, and I loved every moment of it!  What an adventure!  I feel like I was part of all the highs and lows that Jude experienced in Faerieland!  Boy, am I exhausted!

  5. It is hard waiting for the next book in a series, especially when the ending of the last book left you speechless. I have heard about this series, but never had a chance to get to it. Hope to one day.
