GR's Summary:

Sometimes life leaves a mark.

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge, and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…

My Thoughts:

I've been in a bit of a book funk; so I decided to read some books that have been on my TBR for a while.  Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my absolute favorite authors, and a go to author when I need a guaranteed good read.  I was really excited to read Scorched, because I had read the first book in the series, Frigid, and really enjoyed it.  Plus, I remember having read several reviews on how good it was, by bloggers that I follow.

This story can be read as a standalone.  Scorched was a serious read, with real life problems.  The main character was realistically flawed, and the story had a good message.  The main characters, Andrea and Tanner, are the best friends of Sydney and Kyler, who were the main characters in Frigid.

Syd and Kyler invite Andrea and Tanner to share a relaxing getaway in a cabin, located in the woods of West Virginia.  Andrea and Tanner have an interesting way of interacting with one another.  Tanner enjoys pushing all of Andrea's buttons, and he's always sure to get a feisty reaction out of her.  They are both very attracted to one another, but Andrea thinks that Tanner is a player, and doesn't want to be another notch on his bedpost.

From the beginning of the story, we see that Andrea is a party girl, who loves to go out.  However, it quickly becomes apparent that she has a problem.  She is a binge drinker, and can't stop at a few drinks without getting completely wasted.  She usually goes home from the bars with different guys, and cannot remember anything when she wakes up the next day.

Right away Andrea's character intrigued me.  I wondered about what lead her to drink the way that she did.  I thought perhaps she had inner demons that she was trying to escape, and was very curious to figure out what they were.   This was one of the things that kept me turning pages very quickly.

Andrea quickly agrees to go to the cabin, because she does not like to be alone, and Sydney is her only real friend.  Tanner goes because he is looking to have a good time.  While at the cabin, the dynamic of Andrea and Tanner's relationship changes.  Attraction consumes them, and feelings grow substantial.   However, the problem of Andrea's drinking looms over them.  Syd and Tanner want to help Andrea.  Will she let them, or will her problem destroy the only good things in her life?

I loved reading about the close friendship that Andrea and Sydney shared.  I also loved Tanner's character.  He was so caring, compassionate, and understanding.  Tanner truly wanted to help Andrea,  because he really cared about her.  There were a ton of swoon-worthy moments between Andrea and Tanner, which was another thing that kept me turning pages quickly!

Scorched had a different feel to it than other books that I've read by Jennifer L. Armentrout.  However, one thing remained the same, her characters were still beautifully developed, and the plot was one that I quickly became invested in.

My Rating:

I give, Scorched, by Jennifer L. Armentrout 4 Real World Problems, Beautiful Connection, Swoon-Filled Stars!
