Synopsis:

A STANDALONE NOVEL that does NOT need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy new STANDALONE novel.

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.

Damien was a hotter version of my ex.

The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking. He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.

The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.

We got to talking.

He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.

He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.

Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.

I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.

I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.

Author's note – Neighbor Dearest is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Lindy's Thoughts:

First, I want to say that Neighbor Dearest was a surprisingly emotional read for me.   I thought it was going to strictly be a  feel-good, sexy romance.  While it was all of those things, it was also so much more profound.  It tugged at my heartstrings, and made me a little bit of a wreck at certain times, but the payoff was spectacular!

Chelsea Jameson is heartbroken when her long-term live in boyfriend, Elec O'Rourke leaves her for his step-sister.  She moves to a new apartment to get away from the memories, and while there she meets her sexy and frustrating new neighbor/ landlord Damien Hennessey.  His two dogs barking is relentless, and drives her crazy; as does their sexy heart throb of an owner, Damien.  However, the more these two interact, sexual tensions intensify, and these two begin to truly care about one another.  Unfortunately, Damien has let Chelsea know that he doesn't ever plan on getting married or having children.  So, they decide to become platonic friends, and soon become best friends and irreplaceable in each other's eyes.  In fact, no one else can hold a candle to how they feel about one another.

It was such a roller coaster ride of emotions as I watched Chelsea and Damien's feelings for one another grow, and yet Damien stubbornly refused to move on from his decision to remain strictly friends.  The suspense of not knowing what lead to Damien's decision had me guessing many different scenarios.  However, it was easy to see that he wanted the absolute best for Chelsea, and had only good intentions towards her.  Damien wasn't a player, and the more I got to know him, the more I loved what I saw in this loyal and loving passionate artist.

Love cannot be controlled, and I couldn't wait to see how everything would play out between these two characters.  The connection they had grew tremendously and was woven seamlessly throughout the story.  Their story confirmed my belief in fate, and that everything that played out, happened just so they would find one another.

The secondary cast of characters were a great supporting cast, and a lot of fun to read about.  I would like to see a story about Jade (Chelsea's sister) and Tyler (Damien's brother).  The chemistry between these two was through the roof, and I would love to see these two get together!

Rating:

I give, Neighbor Dearest, by Penelope Ward, 4.5 Combustible Chemistry, Sweet and Tender Love Story, Teary-Eyed, One and Only Unicorn Filled Stars!  I highly recommend this love story, and Penelope Ward is quickly becoming one of my go-to-authors for a great romance!

Mikki's Review:

Neighbor Dearest was one of my most anticipated reads of 2016. This book can be read as a standalone, but there is reference to characters from Stepbrother Dearest. I really loved Stepbrother Dearest and could not wait to read Chelsea's story. I knew that this was going to be a sexy, intense and emotional story. Penelope Ward always delivers all the feels!

Things have been difficult for Chelsea. She has a broken heart and her neighbor always seems to put his two cents when it comes to her personal business. She should stay away from Damien. With his sexy ways and his honest advice, he soon becomes a good friend that she never expected to find. Damien makes it clear to Chelsea that he's no good for her. He can be her best friend, nothing more. Chelsea's heart as other plans. She knows that Damien has strong feelings for her and she won't let true love pass her by. Even if it means getting her heart broken all over again.

I really enjoyed this story. From beginning to end, I was cheering for Chelsea and Damien to find the HEA that they both deserved. They both had to go through some difficult moments and when they found each other, it was like they found a missing piece to their lives. They completed each other perfectly! The chemistry was intense from the very beginning and I felt my connection to these characters from the moment I met them.

Damien was such a sweet, fun and lovable hero. Be prepared for a major swoon fest! I could feel the intensity of his love for Chelsea. He helped her a lot even if his own life was a rollercoaster ride. He made her heart beat again and made her believe in love. Chelsea was very broken at the beginning of this journey. My heart broke for her and I wanted to give her a big hug and show her all my support. Even if things started on a bad note with Damien, Chelsea was curious about the Angry Artist that was consuming her every thought. Time passed and her heart healed. Damien's friendship helped her heal her broken heart. Their friendship soon turned to an all consuming love. I loved how Chelsea described her love for Damien. She deeply loved her ex, but the love she had for her soulmate was on a whole other level.

This story did have a twist that I did not see coming. The book started out pretty predictable, but I should have known better. Never expect predictable with Penelope Ward. She always knows how to turn things around in a story! I loved all of the supporting characters and I really hope that Tyler, which is Damien's brother, gets his own story. I know exactly who I want him to end up with. I'm with my girl Chelsea on this one ;)
