GR's Summary:

For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.

My Thoughts:

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout is a story that will touch you deeply.  This story was profound, heartbreaking, illuminating, and transformative.  I can't begin to express the impact and amount of thought that this story brought forth in me.  The main characters, Mallory "Mouse" Dodge and Rider Stark were both brilliantly raw, real, and stirring.

Mouse has been homeschooled for the last four years, and went through intensive therapy due to the abuse she endured at the hands of foster parents.  Now, her adoptive parents, successful surgeons, Carlos and Rosa have given her a loving and nurturing home.  Mouse wants to be "perfect" for Carlos and Rosa, but fears falling short.

Mouse begins her new school, Lands High, and is shocked when she see's Rider, the boy who always protected her and went through the same daily horrors as Mallory did when she was younger.  Four years may have passed, but the emotional bond and connection that they once shared never diminished.

While Mallory appears to be fragile, Rider appears to be strong and confident.  He resumes the role or protector, just as he was when they were children, and is Mallory's rock.  However,  Mallory is a lot stronger than she realizes, and Rider covers us the broken pieces of himself.  Now, it's Mallory's turn to be there for him...

The Problem with Forever swept me away.  It broke my heart to see the ways in which the foster care system and abuse had shaped Mallory and Rider as individuals.  They were both broken, in their own unique way.  It was beautiful to see the bond that they had fused from their shared dark history.  They both were scared, and reacted to their fear in different ways.  Yet, with each other, they had someone in their corner, to cheer them on, and make them strong.

I also enjoyed getting to know the secondary characters. Rider's foster brothers Hector, and especially Jaden were fun and charming characters that added to the story.  Mouse's best friend Ainsley was one of my favorite characters.  She was intelligent, an amazing friend, and had sass when it came to putting Hector in his place.  I know that this book is suppose to be a standalone, but I would really love Ainsley to get her own story.

Mouse underwent a significant amount of growth.  She had trouble using her voice due to PTSD and conditioning caused by years of abuse.  However, she learned how to be persistent, resilient, and the difference between living, and just existing.  Together, these two characters knocked me off of my feet with the way they resonated with me, and the amount of feeling they invoked in me.

There were some very thought provoking themes in this story.  My favorite of which was referenced though the childhood story, The Velveteen Rabbit, and basically stated that something we all have is the common is the desire and need to be loved.  How beautiful!  Simple, and yet powerful!!!

My Rating:

The Problem with Forever is an unforgettable masterpiece.  It stirred my soul, broke open my heart, and moved me.  This story transformed me on a cellular level.  I give, The Problem with Forever, by Jennifer L. Armentrout, 5 Transformative, Soul Stirring, Swooning & Reeling, Epiphany Filled Stars!

  3. I'm a pretty open person but the only thing that comes to mind is I wish I had the guts to sing around people. Most people don't know that I can sing pretty decently. =)
    Thank you for this opportunity.

  4. What I would want people to know about me is that I not that cold person they think I am, but at the same time I don't want them to think I'm a weak person.

  6. What I love about myself or what I wish people knew....eventhough I'm quite and recluse I'm really screaming inside for someone to see me,to really see me and take the time to get to know me not just assume they know me

  7. One thing that I wish people knew is that, even thought I look confident, I'm not. I'm scared of speaking in public, I always let other people talk, and that includes speaking over the phone. I prefer communicating through email or anything that includes writing rather than speaking. Thank you for the giveaway! :3

  9. the best thing that I love about myself is the ability to create many different versions of myself, the way I want people to see me. I also love my love for writing and books. They have some how managed to stick around when people disappeared. What what I want people to know about me the most is my fierce love for writing and that love scares me to hide my work from the world. I'm beginning to push myself to be more open to people and pushing my self criticism to the side and show them how much writing means to me. Thanks for the giveaway. Cheers :)
