New Adult Contemporary

Lost. That one single word best describes my life at this very moment. I lost the last games of the season and both my team and my coach blame me. I lost the last two months because I drowned in my own despair like a complete loser. And I lost the only girl who ever mattered because I was afraid being with me would destroy her.

But now I realize how truly lost I am without her. She has become my story…and even though she acts like she’s moved on, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. She’s beautiful, sweet—and so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is help her. Be there for her.

Love her…

If only I could convince Fable to give me a second chance. Then I wouldn’t feel so lost anymore, and neither would she. We could be found together.

Words could not express how much I loved this beautiful story!  I am such a huge fan of, "One Week Girlfriend," and I didn't think that the sequel could possibly top it, or be at the same level as the first story in the series.  However, I'm excited to gush about this unbelievably amazing sequel, where the story just kept building up into pure perfection!  One Week girlfriend ended in a cliffhanger, and Second Chance Boyfriend, picked up right where it left off, answering all my questions, tying up loose ends, and leaving me completely, and utterly satisfied with the ending!  I grew to respect, and admire Fable's courage, strength, love, and support towards her younger brother Owen, and the love of her life, Drew.  I fell even deeper in love with Drew in this sequel, and was so happy to see that the faith Fable had in him was well-placed, and that he was pro-active in getting his life back on track, and on seeking out the help he needed to heal.  This story continued being told in alternating point of views, of Drew, and Fable.  I love when a story is told in this manner, because I feel like we get a more well-rounded picture of what is occurring in the plot, and are able to view the thoughts, feelings, and perspectives, of both main characters.  What stood out to me in , "Second Chance Boyfriend," was how amazing the story continued to be, how immense the character growth was of both Drew, and Fable, and the beautiful poetry that I enjoyed reading from the beginning till the end of the story.

Second Chance Boyfriend, was an amazing story!  This story did not disappoint!  It continued throwing out surprises, plot-twists, and conflicts, for Fable and Drew to overcome!  I enjoyed how realistic this story was.  Many romances, have the two main characters end up together, and all problems are easily, and mysteriously solved and tied up in a nice, neat bow, with a happily ever after.  Yet, real relationships take a lot of work, sacrifice, compromise, and growing pains at the beginning to work out.  What I enjoyed about this story was how, Ms. Murphy, gave readers a more realistic picture of how couple's need to work a relationship out.  She put her character's through major conflicts, turmoil, emotional-scarring, and made them have to work hard, if they wanted their relationship to succeed.  I think the message was more helpful, and hopeful, in it's depiction of real relationships, real life, and that it is possible to make it work, but it doesn't come easily.

I love when character's grow, and make a transformation from the start, to the end of a book to a series.  Both Drew, and Fable, were well-rounded dynamic characters that went through major turmoil, made mistakes along the way, and were new to being in a relationship.  Yet, they were not the same characters in ,Second Chance Boyfriend, as they were in, One Week Girlfriend.  They matured, and learned from their new experiences, mistakes, and each other.  Drew grew the most as a character.  He realized that he needed to see a therapist to deal with his past.  I loved reading about his therapy sessions, and applauding him for talking through what he had always tried to ignore, and run away from.  Drew, also learned that Fable needed him too, and even though she was strong, she needed him to support, comfort, and be there for her.  Most of all he learned to let go of the guilt he had been holding on to his whole life, and that when he had a problem, he needed to face it, instead of running away!  Fable also grew as a character!  She realized that she needed to learn how to accept help, .  She had gotten so used to having to be strong, and do everything on her own, that she wouldn't take help from Drew, even when he was practically begging her to.  She also learned to trust again.  She had been used a lot before she met Drew, and had learned from an early age that men would break her heart.  She had such a thick wall, that when Drew messed up, that wall automatically went back up, and she had trouble trusting him.  She kept waiting for him to leave her, and was so quick to shove him away whenever they had an argument.  She finally realized that she needed to trust Drew, and, not shut down every time they fought, or she thought he would leave her.

I was excited to see that Ms. Murphy included poetry in this story.  Drew wrote beautiful poems about Fable, and they really touched my heart, and made me feel the depth of his love and connection with Fable.  I would highly recommend Second Chance Boyfriend, (read One Week Girlfriend first,) by Monica Murphy.  This is a series that deals with tragedy, pain, angst, obsession, and darkness.  However, it also deals with passion, hope, love, transformation, and new beginnings!  Read this series, if you enjoy reading gritty, swoon worthy, and sexy New Adult books, such as, The Sea of Tranquility, by Katja Millay, The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorenson, and Hopeless by Colleen Hoover!  Second Chance Boyfriend is a MUST READ!!!!!

Mutual understanding of each others painful past
Acceptance is unconditional, when you really love someone
Rekindling of passions that run deep
Supporting one another through good times and bad
Hope, happiness, and home, what they give each other
Mending broken hearts, and moving forward
A nightmare that finally ended...
Love began, and blossomed into a beautiful bouquet
Letting  go of the past, set them free...
One and only Love, ...forevermore
Willing to go the distance

I give Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy 5 Stars filled with Poetry, Passion, Swooning, Soul-Deep Heartache, Transformation, and New Beginnings!  Every time I hear the word Marshmallow, or see one, I will remember how much I loved this story!  Ms. Murphy has joined the ranks of my favorite authors, and has serious talent!  She has joined my V.I.P author auto-buy list with, Colleen Hoover, Elizabeth Reyes, Abbi Glines, and Jennifer Armentrout!

"I stare at my stupid little poem that the girl I love will never read.  I draw little squiggly lines around it.  A cursive F, just like I was taught in elementary school.  Her name.  Fable.  A story.  A myth.  A fairy tale.  She's my story.  I want to live and breathe and die for her and she has no idea how much she consumes my thoughts."  (EARC, 17)

"Funny how someone can come into your life for such a brief time but leave such a lasting impression.  He permanently imprinted himself on my heart, and I permanently imprinted his name on my skin." (EARC, 23)

"Drew Callahan is my absolute weakness.  Like a drug I can't get enough of.  He's my addiction and if I'm being honest with myself, I'm not looking to kick that particular habit anytime soon."  (EARC, 39)

"Fine.  I've always run away in the past.  But you, Fable.  You make me want to stay."  (EARC, 74)

"Our bodies are smashed so close together, I feel like we're a permanent part of each other.  I've heard those sorts of declarations before.  Where two become one and you can't tell where one begins and the other ends, blah, blah, blah.  I always thought it sounded like a bunch of romantic crap.  But I feel that way right now with Drew.  As if our bodies are entwined, bound so tight we could never, ever come apart.  His heart is mine.  And my heart is his."  (EARC, 96)

  7. Well you already know how much I freaking love these books and I love your review.

Did you see who Monica Murphy really is? I went to go follow her other twitter account only to realize that I already follow her and we had even talked on Twitter before. I was introduced by Rachel Harris and I even told Rachel (and everyone else) to read One Week Girlfriend. I was so embarrassed but it was kind of neat.

Oh and I was so excited writing my review I forgot to mention Colin and Jen! Looking forward to their book too :)
