Gr’s Summary

London and her teenage friends live in a reprocessed world.

Confined within Capital City’s concrete walls, London has done the impossible and the illegal. She’s created something New- a song. But her mentor, club owner Pauly, is not impressed. Since the historic Energy Crisis forced everyone behind walls generations ago, the Tycoons have ensured there is truly nothing new allowed under the sun. Pauly warns London to keep her song to herself, if she knows what’s good for her.

What he doesn’t know is that London is keeping an even bigger secret: she dreams. And she’s not alone. London’s band-mates and friends have begun dreaming as well, seeing themselves in “night pictures” as beings from another world. As Otherborn, they must piece together the story of their astral avatars, the Others, in order to save their world from a dreamless, hopeless future.

When Pauly is murdered and an Otherborn goes missing, London realizes someone is hunting them down. Escaping along the Outroads, they brave the deserted Houselands with only their dreams to guide them. Can they find their friend before the assassin finds them? Will being Otherborn save their lives, or destroy them?

The Way I See It

This was an interesting read.  It all stayed very mysterious through to the end.  I am really looking forward to the next book.   All these wonderful characters have so much potential, and I can't wait to see what they can really do. I’m hoping in the second book we really see London come into her own.

O-therworldly beings coming together to save a lost cause.
T-ime and Space, what their love is willing to cross.
H-ierarchy of current is what they plan to destroy.
E-vil, what currently rules our world.
R-evenge, for a love lost.
B-rethren, a community of people cornered together, and pushed to survive.
O-bstruction, of a pact and promise.
R-esolve to not give up, to fight, to win.
N-aive fear, a weak traitor that puts everyone's lives at risk.

The story was a little slow building, but once everyone made the necessary connections, it started to flow much more easily.  London, Rye, and Tora have soo much potential, I cannot wait to find out where it tops off.  If your looking for a mysterious dystopian read this is the book for you! This was an interesting and different read, and I’m looking forward to continuing this series.

My Fav’s

Rye

He has loved London from afar for so long, that he can't lose her.  He will fight with everything he has for her, to keep her safe.  Rye has a great heart with amazing willpower!  I can see him achieving great things, and coming into his own!

London

The center of it all.  Not knowing a lick of whats going on, she has to literally stumble across the answers.  The best thing about stumbling in my eyes is eventually you learn where not to trip.  I’m looking forward to meeting the London that rises.

Tora

Talk about sacrifice, this lady has to be a gift from the Astral!  I don’t want to get into what she’s lost, and what she has to sacrifice. Tora is absolute in her conviction, of who she is, and what she needs to do...My mouth is agape in AWE because Tora deserves nothing less.  Oh, and she’s humble to boot!

My Rating

3.5 Obsidian, Seer, Pit Worker, Neglectful-mother, Moth, Midplane, Astral filled stars!  For a mix of Dystopian, and paranormal grab this book!
