GR's Summary:

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes an electrifying new spin-off series, Saints of Denver, featuring all the characters fans have been dying to read about.

Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation, while Zeb spends his working with his hands. She’s French silk, he’s all denim and flannel.

Zeb’s wanted the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her. It doesn't matter how many smooth moves he makes, the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest—either that or she doesn't return it. Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior.

But just as things start to heat up, Zeb is blindsided by a life altering moment from his past. He needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. He can’t risk what’s at stake just because his attraction to Sayer feels all consuming. But as these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, battling together to save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide can no longer be ignored.

My Thoughts:

I am loving the Saints of Denver Series!  Ms. Crownover is giving her readers the stories of minor secondary characters from the Marked Series.  In Leveled, we got Orlando Frederick and Dominic Voss' story, which was wonderful.  Now, in Built, we get Zeb Fuller and Sayer Cole's story!  I have been waiting for these two to get a story, ever since we got to see the spark between them in Rowdy's story.

Sayer Cole is a beautiful and intelligent woman.  She is loyal, helps those in need, and is passionate about her career as a lawyer.  Sayer projects an aura of flawless perfection.  She is numb, and uses an "ice queen" persona to protect herself from getting too close to others.  Sayer suffered many years of emotional abuse at the hands of her father.  He criticized and degraded her, which has left deep and hindering emotional scars.  As a result, Sayer views herself in a negative light.  She doesn't see herself as worthy of love or even understand what anyone could ever see in her.

From the moment Zeb met Sayer, he thought she was a beautiful woman.  However, as he has gotten to know her on a deeper level, he recognizes what a special lady she is.  Unfortunately, no matter how hard Zeb tries, Sayer will not lower her walls enough to let him in.  When Zeb need's Sayer's professional help, the lines between client, friend, and lover get blurred.  Zeb is a patient man, and willing to do whatever it takes to call Sayer his.  Will she eventually take a chance on love by allowing herself to be vulnerable?

Built was such an amazing read.  I loved watching Sayer's transformation in this story.  She became more "human," passionate, and endearing, as Zeb's presence in her life changed her for the better.  I cannot even express how much I loved Zeb's character.  He was so caring, attentive, sensitive, and devoted to those he loved.  He was a "gentle giant."  I pictured a man who was huge, sexy, and intimidating to look at.  He protected what he considered his, but at the same time was so gentle and tender with those that needed his care.

The passion between Zeb and Sayer was intoxicating.  These two were so sensual, erotic, and carnal together.  Yet, they also had that intimate and intense emotional connection as well.

My Rating:

I give, Built, by Jay Crownover, 4.5 Sweet and Sexy Gentle Giant, Devoted, Patient, Transformative, and Blossoming Love!  I am really excited to continue this series, and am looking forward to the next book, Hooked!  This will be Quaid (who is introduced in Built,) and Avett's (from the Marked Series) story!  Ms. Crowover gave us a great little snippet of these two, and let me tell you, she sure knows how to build anticipation!

Book Excerpt:

As though my intense and swirling thoughts had pulled Zeb into the vortex of self-pity I was struggling in, my phone vibrated in my hand with a message from him as I wandered aimlessly through the empty rooms.

I shivered at the sight of his name and then silently scolded myself for having such a powerful reaction to only his name on the screen. His message was simple but for some reason it felt full of more meaning and emotion than the three words staring up at me indicated.

     Can you talk?

I bit my lip and decided how to answer. I didn’t talk to my clients after office hours were done for the day and I was already having a really hard time keeping the professional and personal lines clear where he and this case were concerned. I sighed and tapped out:

I can. Do you want me to call you?

I had started this process as his friend first and it wasn’t fair to him that my heart was pulling itself apart because of his situation. He was probably nervous and scared about what was coming next week, and I was the only one who could put some of that at ease.

There wasn’t a response for a long couple of minutes and I hated that all I could do was stare at my phone and pace back and forth while I waited to see what he was going to say. I was acting like a teenager and it was ridiculous. I snorted at myself and was headed into the kitchen to pour myself a glass of wine when the phone rang and made me jump. I wasn’t prepared for him to call me right that moment and had a bout of anxiety about answering the call before I told myself to man up and swiped my finger across the screen.

“Hey. Everything all right?” I heard a car honk its horn wherever he was calling from, and he mumbled something that wasn’t directed at me before answering.

     “Fuck no.”

Book Summary:

We all need a hero...let the Saints of Denver begin.

Orlando Frederick knows what it is to be leveled by pain. Instead of focusing on his own, he’s made it his mission to help others: sports stars, wounded war vets, survivors of all kinds. But when Dom, a rugged, damaged, sinfully attractive cop makes his way into Lando’s physical therapy practice, he might be the biggest challenge yet. Lando loved one stubborn man before and barely survived the fallout. He’s not sure if he can do it again.

Dominic Voss is a protector. The police badge he wears is not only his job, it’s his identity, so when he’s sidelined because of an injury, the only thing he cares about is getting back on the force. He expects Lando to mend his body, he just doesn’t realize the trainer will also have him working towards a hell of a lot more. As attraction simmers and flares, Dom sees that Lando needs repair of his own...if only the man will let him close enough to mend what's broken.

My Thoughts:

Leveled was a sweet and fast-paced novella.  It is the story of Dominic "Dom" Voss (Loyal's best friend and police partner,) and Orlando "Lando" Frederick's story.  Dom was severely injured in the call of duty, and is determined to get back to the career he loves.  Royal is able to pull some strings and get Lando as his physical therapist.  Lando is highly sought after by sports stars, and is one of the best in his field.

When Lando and Dom first meet one another sparks fly. This is a shocker for Lando, because he is still mourning the death of his first and only love, Remy Archer.  Lando decides to keep things strictly professional.  For one he doesn't date his clients, and for another, he could never date a police officer, and risk losing someone else he loves.  Will fear rule Lando, or will Dom convince him to take another chance on love?

Leveled was a really good story.  I loved the fact that I got to be reunited with the amazing cast of characters in the Marked Men series.  Plus, Dom and Lando were both minor character that I liked, but didn't know a lot about.  I enjoyed getting to know both of them on a deeper level.  Leveled was an emotionally-charged story.  I love that Ms. Crownover gave us the dual perspectives of Lando and Dom.  My heart mourned for Lando's loss, and I understood his fear, and how hard it was to break free, and put his heart on the line again.

My Rating:

I give Leveled, by Jay Crownover, 4 Courageous, Healing from Heat Ache, and New Love Filled Stars!  I was happy that Orlando and Dom both got their own HEA.  Ms. Crownover's fans are going to be very pleased with this sweet and romantic novella!

Book Teasers:

Book Excerpt:

He reached out and shut the medical file in front of him and leaned back in his chair. His eyebrows arched up, and he laced his fingers together and put his index fingers under his chin.

“What exactly are you after, Mr. Voss?” His voice was smooth and modulated. I was a disaster, a bundle of nerves and anxiety, and this dude was acting like we were talking about the weather, not my entire life and everything I had ever worked my ass off for.

Defiantly I spread my legs apart and slumped back in the chair across from him, making it a point to affect a posture that was as casual as his was professional. I had on a faded DPD T-shirt and a pair of jeans with a hole in the knee, and both were a little baggy since I’d lost some of my bulk being laid up in the hospital after the accident. If the guy across from me was a cherry-red Ferrari, then I was a rusted-out and battered John Deere tractor in comparison.

“I want my life back, Mr. Frederick. I want to be able to move the way I used to. I want to pass the department physical so I can go back on patrol. I want to be able to walk without needing a crutch or a cane. I want to be the way I was before I got hurt.” I was asking for the impossible and I knew it. “And please call me Dom.”

He dipped his chin down a little, and the edge of his mouth tilted up in a slight grin. Damn the man was good-looking. I blew out a breath and lifted up my hands to run them over the top of my shorn hair. I was hanging on to my sanity by a thread and my unexpected reaction to the guy that I was hanging every hope I had left on wasn’t helping matters.

“All right, Dom. You can call me Lando. That’s what my friends call me.”

I felt one of my eyebrows shoot up. “Are we going to be friends?”
