GR's Summary:

Angelle Prejean is in a pickle. Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé—a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look—and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning Cane at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem.

Cane Robicheaux is no one’s prince. He doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t fall in love. When sweet, sultry-voiced Angelle propositions him, he hopes their little game can finally get her out of his head. He doesn’t expect her to break through all his barriers. But even as Angelle burrows deeper into his heart, he knows once their seven days are up, so is their ruse.

My Take on this Journey:

Seven Day Fiance, by Rachel Harris was a fun, fast paced, light read.  I enjoyed the story line very much, and all the characters were essential to the story.  The main characters are, Angelle Prejean and Cane Robicheaux.  Angelle is roommates with Cane's sister, Sherry.  Angelle is demure, innocent, sweet, and trusting.  She has been trying to break away from her image since coming to the small town of Magnolia Springs, but has yet to shed her V card.  Instead, she has Cane's two sister's, Sherry and Colby, setting her up for an Auction in town with a twist.  The Annual Bachelor Auction.  The kickoff of the holidays is black tie, and has Angie worrying if she isn't completely out of her league, when she walks up and see's a poster of the man that has been under her skin for quite some time, the young, gorgeous, and dangerously sexy, Cane Robicheaux.  Her innocent cheeks flush red, when she see's the little bit of attire he has on for the auction.  The Robicheaux's have been like a family to her since she left her small home town of Bon Terre, and Cajun Country, but her feelings are far from brotherly when it comes to Cane, though she never will admit it to anyone.  She's the run away bride to be from her small town, and wants to become like her sister, Amber, who in her eyes was a hero, who passed in a tragic accident when they were kids. Angelle is a volunteer firefighter, works part time at a stable,  though she never had to work a day if she didn't want to.  She doesn't ever say anything about being well to do, and lives a modest life.  She is trying to live for herself and her own wants and needs for once in her life, and the distance from her over-protective family has given her that chance to become her own person.

Cane Robicheaux is the owner of the most prestigious restaurant in town, and a love them and leave them playboy. Cane will do anything for his sister's and his niece Emma.  He is actually a push over, till it comes to this auction.  Now he is madder than hell about what he has let his sisters talk him into doing, until he see's Angelle there.  No one has ever gotten to him till the day Angelle walked into his life.  He just wants one good night to get her out of his system.  Cane has been chasing her since he met her, and she keeps running from his tactics.  On the night after the auction, he gets the offer of a lifetime.  When Angelle paid handsomely, and surprised everyone, for a date in a bidding at the auction to save Cane from a crazed lunatic from his past, drunk to the hilt, Cane is very pleased in deed.  Angelle calls in a marker the next day, and asks if he will act like her fiancé for seven days to appease her family, go back to Bon Terre with her and act out their love for each other in front of the waiting town.  Cane figures he can return the favor, and get Angelle out of his system at the same time.  What Cane doesn't realize is that he is walking into a den of overprotective tigers, waiting to shred him to the bare bone if he doesn't do right by Angelle, and at the same time, this clan is going to open up a lot of feelings he has had buried for years, that will either change him for the better or send him packing for home.  There are some great twists and turns in this story, a jealous ex named Brady, her boyfriend of eight years, that Angelle left with his ring in his hand when he proposed to her in front of the whole town and she turned him down.

This was a great read, with a lot of fun characters, old town traditional values, descriptions of the old fairs that use to come to town when I was a kid.  I loved every second of it.  The memories were vividly painted by Ms. Harris and she brought it all back for me in this wonderful work of art.  Cane's two sisters with their match making schemes had me laughing out loud.  The authenticity of the dishes had my mouth watering.  Ms. Harris' prose made every dish sound delectable.  Angelle is a hot mess, and Cane is just downright HoT!!!  Don't go by the cover girls, it doesn't do this book justice!!!  I read this book straight through, there is a lot of character development, life lessons, some sad parts, and a whole lot of fun. WARNING:  Ms. Harris gives some red-hot, descriptive, love scenes.  Watch out readers, you may get scorched!!!

I give Seven Day Fiance, by Rachel Harris, 4 1/2 Sexy, Memorable, Hot, First Love, Wonderfully Romantic Stars!!!

My Favorite Quote:

Cane's mouth was heaven and hell rolled into one.  A delicious torment she never wanted to end.  The firm pressure mixed with the soft, skillful nibbles made her head spin.  His tongue dipped inside as his long fingers raked over her back.  Every muscle he touched sang under the glorious pressure, even as her lower half clenched, wanting more.  Mini-explosions went off in her insides.  Nerves pulsed.  Shockwaves reverberated down to her toes.  Body parts that had laid dormant for twenty-six years sprang to life.  A sound between a squeal and a groan left her mouth, and a rumble emanated from within Cane's chest.  She was like a blazing sign saying, take me now, and the beautiful thing was, he would be doing just that, very soon.  (Kindle Arc-loc: 1632)

Excerpt:
Angelle stopped beside a folding table boasting boxes of fresh, crispy cracklins and selected a thick piece. Cane watched, mesmerized, as she puckered those gorgeous lips and blew on the sliver. With a flirtatious glint in her eyes, she held it up to his mouth, and he opened.
Holy crap.
He’d had cracklins before. Fried pork fat was a standard gas station treat, usually shrink-wrapped and stale as shit. But this, fresh from the pot and piping hot, was unbelievable. Cane widened his eyes, and it was possible he even moaned. It was thatgood. And as he swallowed, Angel rewarded him with a rich, throaty laugh.
Ca c’est bon?” she asked, grinning when he grabbed another handful.
He touched her nose and popped a piece in his mouth. “Good would be an understatement.”
Grinning, she took a fried morsel for herself and sent the balding, overweight gentleman tending the table a wink. “Now that’s what we like to hear.” Then she closed her eyes as she savored the treat.
The sounds of Angel moaning, and watching her face soften in the throes of a foodgasm, had to be the sexiest damn thing Cane had ever seen. His pants tightened, embarrassingly so considering he knew the audience was still watching, but what pushed him over the edge was when her eyes opened. The pleasure in them was his undoing.
Feeling the weight of the crowd’s disapproving stares and not giving a damn, figuring now was as good a time as any to give the people the show they clearly wanted, he grasped her hip and tugged her forward, pausing only to inhale her gasp of surprise before brushing her mouth with his.
It was like setting off a damn forest fire.
Angelle, his shocking little hellcat, pounced. Forgetting all about their audience, or maybe not giving a damn either, she wound her arms around his neck, lifted onto her toes, and kissed him back with everything she had. Cane had intended to steal a quick taste, take the edge off his craving for her, and prove their point with the town’s people. But hell if he was gonna be the one to back down now. Tightening his grasp on her slim hips, he brushed his thumbs across the smooth, exposed skin near her waistband. He deepened the kiss, thrilling over her telltale shiver. Whimpering, she yanked on the hair at his nape and sucked his bottom lip into her mouth. Hot damn.
Okay, now he had to start backing down. With all her male relatives watching, not to mention the knives and axes still lying around from the butchering earlier, if Cane valued his life, he needed to wrangle control of the situation. He’d heard patience was a virtue. That was a line of bull—he’d always sucked at waiting for anything he wanted. But for Angel, he was willing to try.
Loosening his grip on her belt loops, Cane slowed the intensity of the kiss. He smoothed the hem of her shirt down, grazed her lips one last time, and, placing his forehead against hers, inhaled through his nose. Sunflowers mixed with cayenne may be his new favorite scent. Angelle released a heavy breath, a flush blooming on her cheeks. She darted a glance at the crowd, then looking into his eyes, grinned lazily. “My goodness. If anyone doubted we were a couple before, I guess that showed them.”

GR's Summary:

One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef, One combustible kitchen…

When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

My Take on this Journey:

Taste the Heat, by Rachel Harris is a delightful, change of pace, light romance, about Colby Robicheaux.  Colby is a Cajun Chef who owns her own restaurant in Las Vegas.  She leaves there to return to her home town, Magnolia Springs, in New Orleans, to help her siblings, (Sherry and Cane) save their family owned restaurant, Robicheaux's.  Sherry is the nosey sister, that is always in everyone's business, trying to direct traffic, and Cane is the big bruiser brother, the protector, who is actually a real softee at heart.

Colby was not looking forward to returning to her home town after 12 years away, to all the memories that haunt her from her past.  Colby wants nothing to do with committment or love, after all the bad relationships she has had.  She is very mistrustful of men, and thinks they are all made out of the same mold.  One of her best memories is her brother Cane's best friend, Jason, who she carried a mad crush on throughout her childhood.  Jason is the Captain of the Fire Department, who has been alone with his sweet, precocious,  pre-teen daughter, Emma for the last 4 years, raising her since the death of his beloved wife, Ashleigh.  Although Jason knows he should be looking for a mother replacement for Emma, who will be needing a mother figure now that she will be going in to her teen years soon, he knows he can never replace the love of his life.

Jason and Colby run into each other, and their mutual attraction is apparent.  Jason is built like a professional body builder, with abs for miles,  and smoldering carmel eyes.  He begins flirting with Colby, thinking she is hot!  He doesn't realize who she is, because she has changed so much in the twelve years since he's seen her.   Colby has grown into a really beautiful woman, with curves in all the right places, and the tightest body ever.

The two get to know each other again, and make a mutual agreement to have a summer fling without any commitment, though Colby still has feelings for Jason.  What starts out as carefree and easy, ends up a fire with smoldering embers!  Colby locks her haunting memories of her father, and bad relationships in her safe place, and throws away the key.  At times, she lets herself drift back to happier times, when the whole family use to cook up a Gumbo feast, and her parents joyfully danced in the kitchen.  She remembers her mother's contagious laughter, but quickly closes off her mind from the thoughts, though happy ones, and changes direction in thought.

Taste the Heat, by Rachel Harris, had no insta-romance, though there were definitely feelings there from the start for Colby.  The novel was full of appetizing cuisine, and steamy nights of romance by candlelight, with arms entwined, sipping wine.  The reader will feel the ambiance of New Orleans, smell the flavors-subtle and sharp.  This novel was great fun, had lively banter, easy reading, and hot to say the least!  Feel the Heat, had all the elements necessary for a family setting, good friends, mores and values that were sometimes tested, and a great community feeling.  Jason was a great character, who was loyal, passionate, loving, kind, considerate, and eager.  He wanted to help Colby through her roadblocks.  There were a lot of ups and downs, a whirlwind of emotions, and fireworks.  Emma was a very refreshing young girl with eager matchmaking skills.  The relationships were very real, and I could picture all the places described by Ms. Harris.  The prose were beautifully written, down to the taste, look, feel of the foods, aromas, and flavors of a wonderful place to live.

I give Taste the Heat, by Rachel Harris, 4.5 Loving, Loyal, Trusting, Committed...GIVE ME A HOT, HOT, HOT, FIREMAN, TO HELP ME PUT OUT THE FIRE...STARS!!!

My Favorite Quotes:

"The man was sex on a stick.  He was gorgeous, smart, kind, and a freaking hero in their town."  (eARC, pg. 105)

"Jason tossed his seat belt and then one of them moved.  She didn't know whom---didn't care, either---because then she was in his arms.  On his lap.  Her thighs straddling his hips, his warm hand curved around her neck, and his mouth just shy of touching hers.  Right where she wanted to be.  The sound of her harsh, impatient breaths and staccato pulse pounded in her ears.  Cinnamon-scented breath fanned across her skin, setting off a fire of anticipation in her blood.  She swallowed, her gaze shifting between the planes of Jason's lips to the swirling desire in his carmel-colored eyes.  What was he waiting for?  If the man didn't kiss her soon, she was pretty sure she was going to explode.  Colby sighed, her breath mixing with his.  Gripping one hand around the headrest to anchor her, she slid her other down the front of his buttoned shirt and melted into his arms.  She still wasn't close enough.  Jason deepened the kiss, and she slid her arms around his waist.  Dragging her nails up his back and then curling her hands around his broad shoulders, she pulled herself up hard against him, smashing her breasts into the wall of his chest.  Jason growled his approval.  Plundering her mouth with his lips and tongue, he inhaled her as the steering wheel dug into her back.  The pale skin was going to bruise, but she didn't care.  He tasted of cinnamon and temptation, and smelled like heaven."  (eARC, pg. 106)
