Summary:

Dallas:

Sacrifice. I’m familiar with it. I've had to leave behind everyone I cared about—my sister, my best friend, my band, and my high school sweetheart—in order to chase my dream of making it in Nashville. But when Robyn Breeland walks back into my life, it’s as if the universe has decided to give me a second chance. I’m just not sure it’s one I’m willing to take.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------

Robyn:

Heartbreak. I practically majored in it. Dallas Lark was the first boy I ever loved and the one who'd shattered my heart into pieces. But I’ve moved on. Working in promotions at Midnight Bay Bourbon, I’m too busy to sit around moping over my ex. But when my company decides to sponsor his tour, I’ll have to face him whether I’m ready to or not. Dallas is determined to drive me to distraction, and my body begs me to let him. Trouble is, my heart can’t tell the difference between a second chance and making the same mistake twice.

Neon Dream Series:
My Review of Leaving Amarillo Here

My Thoughts:

I am loving the Neon Dreams series!  In Leaving Amarillo, we meet the main characters Dixie, Gavin and Dallas.  With book one, we learned about the special bond between brother and sister, and their best friend, Gavin.  We also learned about the secret love that Dixie and Gavin have been holding on to for one another.  We got a to be continued ending, and now in Loving Dallas, Ms. Quinn focuses on Dallas' story and view point.

Dallas' dream has always focused on his love of country music.  He has been the driving force and managed his band, Leaving Amarillo.  He now has the opportunity to make it big in the music industry.  Unfortunately, the music producers do not want his sister, Dixie.  When Dixie decides to leave the band and encourages Dallas to follow his dreams without her, he is very upset and feels guilty.  Then Gavin leaves, and Dallas is on his own performing as a solo act.

Dallas is shocked to discover that his first and only love, Robyn Breeland, is heading up the promotional campaign for the Kickin' Up Crazy Tour, and will be traveling with the artists.  He never got over the fact that Robyn left him, and he still carries a torch for her.  Robyn still loves Dallas, and sacrificed her relationship, so that Dallas could pursue his dream.  As Dallas and Robyn are together constantly, they both realize that the love they once felt for one another, never went away.  They were high school sweet hearts, but now as adults, they are falling in love even more the second time around, discovering the older more mature versions of each other.  However, their lives are going in two very different directions.  Robyn is becoming highly successful in her career as a marketing specialist, and Dallas is reaching stardom.  Can they finally be together?  Or, are they doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past?

Loving Dallas was a real page turner.  I enjoyed watching Dallas and Robyn rediscover the love and passion that they had for one another.  They had both grown and matured since high school, and it was obvious that they were destined to be together.  However, there were a ton of obstacles in their way.  Dallas had a manipulative and sneaky agent, Mandy Lantram, who I despised.  They also had to contend with jealousy, insecurity, and the many pitfalls of superstardom.  I loved secondary character, and famous musician, Jase Wade.  He made a lot of mistakes on his rise to being a star, and saw a version of his younger self when he looked at Dallas.  He told his sad and heartbreaking story, and gave wise advice so that Dallas could learn from his mistakes.

Dallas and Robyn were great together.  Dallas had writer's block for many years, but quickly realized that Robyn was his muse.  She made him happy, and every day these two were together, they truly enjoyed their lives.  They had so much passion, excitement, and love for one another, that I got swept away in their romance.  Robyn was a real spitfire!  I loved the way she voiced her opinion, didn't let others walk all over her, was driven, and such a go-getter.  Dallas was very sweet, possessive, and protective with her.

I loved the theme in this story about making difficult choices and having to live with the consequences of those choices.  Dallas had to decide if fame, fortune, his passion for music, and living his dream were worth it, at the cost of being with those that he loved most.  What a conundrum!  The next story in the series, Missing Dixie, will continue Dixie and Gavin's story!  I can't wait to see how everything plays out between these two.

My Rating:

I give, Loving Dallas, by Caisey Quinn, 4 First Love, Rise to Stardom, Life-Changing Decisions, Passion Filled, Forever-Love Stars!!!

Book Excerpt:

The universe must hate me. No, it must downright fucking despise me.

Of all the concerts in all the world, she has to be at mine. In fucking Denver of all places. Literally the last place in the universe I would expect to see her.

My mind can’t stop replaying our exchange. Or how lovingly that dress clung to her mouthwatering curves. Seeing her conjured up memories I keep firmly locked in the box of Robyn that I never open. Ever.

Seeing her unexpectedly reminded me of the first time I ever laid eyes on her and practically transported me back in time.

“God, I love this song,” she’d announced the night we met. “Come dance with me.”

She’d grabbed my hand with surprising strength for a petite redhead who couldn’t have weighed a hundred pounds soaking wet. She had the kind of raspy voice that instantly made you think of dirty talk. Or maybe that was just me. I had just turned sixteen and was basically a hard-on with a pulse.

Gavin had raised his eyebrows and smirked as she dragged me closer to the truck blaring the music. She shook her sexy ass and sang at the top of her lungs, off key, but proudly off key. I couldn’t take my eyes or my hands off her. For several years.

Guest Post:

One of the absolute craziest things about writing Loving Dallas was the fact that it was like having two male leads. Dallas himself says it best in the chapter where he explains to Robyn about "Person Dallas" and "Performer Dallas."  The recording label he is hired onto quickly turns charming Dallas Lark from Amarillo (think: country cutie Easton Corbin) into the sexy, sharp-tongued Dallas Walker, a drifter with a shady past (think: country music outlaw Eric Church). I thought it might be fun to compare the two sides of my guy side by side!

STYLE

First up, even though he's really just one man, Dallas has a completely different style when he's on stage. If you were to see the laid back crooner around town, he'd be clad in a well worn-in flannel button down and his favorite pair of jeans and cowboy boots. There will likely be trucker hat providing some shade over his baby blues. However, stop in to see a show and you might not recognize him! On stage Dallas Walker rocks an edgier look including Aviators, leather jackets, and biker boots. Vintage rock band tees are a staple in the wardrobe of this version of Dallas!

SWAGGER

Dallas Lark is a caring and somewhat overprotective big brother to his little sister, Dixie. He believes women should be treated like the ladies that they are with the respect they deserve. He says Grace and he says ma'am, y'all!  Dallas Walker on the other hand is a little rougher around the edge and if you get too close you might enter a danger zone where you end up in scandalous tabloid photos alongside country music's newest bad boy!

SWEETHEARTS

Dallas Lark will forever carry a torch for his high school sweetheart, Robyn Breeland. She is and will always be his muse.  Dallas Walker can't be tamed or tied down and women traipse in and out of his life quicker than Billboard chart toppers change places! He does certainly pay a lot of attention to one special lady that has yet to be identified by media sources. Rumor has it she's the one that got away!

Excerpt:

“You taste like maple syrup. I’m never going to be able to look at pancakes the same way again.”

Dallas’s tongue tangles with mine and I can’t get enough. We’re spiraling quickly out of control. I need to breathe before I pass out.

“Dallas,” I mumble against his mouth. “We shouldn’t do this. Not here.”

The driver can hear us, could glance in the rearview and get an eyeful.

“It’s a ten-minute drive to the hotel. I’m probably going to spontaneously combust before then.” I laugh against his lips. “You’re a big boy. I think you can handle it.”

I slide off his lap, leaving my legs draped over it, though, and lean my head on his shoulder.

“I can’t wait to show you just how big of a boy I am, and how well I can handle it.”

“Behave yourself,” I whisper in the darkness.
“Can’t,” is all he says, sliding his warm fingers beneath my skirt and between my thighs.

“Dallas.” I squirm as he dips beneath my panties.
“I haven’t forgotten, baby,” he murmurs against my hair. “I remember exactly how tight and hot and wet you are. I remember each and every place you like me to touch you. I am a dying man waiting to hear those sweet whimpers you make when I slide inside you.”

I whimper right then, because damn. He feels so good, smells so good, tastes so good. He’s familiar but at the same time, new, different from what I remember. Rougher around the edges, broader, and behaving more boldly than he ever has with me.

The boy version from my memories was sweet, polite, and some- what distant. The grown-up version of Dallas Walker Lark is all hard edges, and intensity—sin wrapped in sugar sprinkled with lust. And I want to savor every single bite.
