Synopsis:

Stacia Palmer had one goal in life--to become an NFL quarterback’s wife.

For the past three years, she’s seduced her way through the university’s football line-up. But when she finally has a quarterback fresh off the draft, Stacia experiences a shocking change of heart. One that sends her back to the place she never thought she'd return to.

Vegas.

Once there, she finds that no one believes her. Least of all Pace Larson, her sexy on-again off-again ex who has never quite gotten over her leaving him for someone else. Of course, he’s now the starting quarterback and determined to claim her as his prize.

But can Stacia give him a second chance when he’s toyed with her emotions into the fourth quarter? Or will they run out of time?

Excerpt:

Stacia felt a presence at her shoulder. She recognized his cologne before she even looked up. It smelled like desire and late-night sex marathons.

Pace.

“What do you want?” Stacia asked, not looking up.

“Just coming to check on you,” Pace said in a sexy low tone that sent a shot of need straight between her legs.

Damn him for being able to do that to me!

She jerked her head up. “Why?”

“Because you look miserable, even from across the room.”

“I do not!”

He raised an eyebrow, and she had to keep from sighing. That face. God, if he wasn’t such an asshole…

“The hair flip earlier, Pink? Really? Sure sign of distress. You practically called me over here.”

“Don’t call me that,” she said through gritted teeth.

He smirked at her response.

“And I didn’t call you over here. I don’t even want to see you.”

“You can talk to me, you know.” He leaned his hip against the bar. He was almost touching her but not quite. She could feel the heat of his skin. “Come on, let’s go outside. Away from all this noise.”

“If you think for one second that I’m going to go anywhere with you, you’re insane,” she said, straightening.

He brushed her hair off one shoulder and just barely skimmed his finger across her exposed collarbone. She stiffened. Her entire body throbbed. No one else elicited these primal emotions from her. Not even the guy she’d given her virginity to. The guy no one knew about.

“I promise I won’t touch you,” he growled out. “Unless you beg me to.”

Stacia smacked him in the chest and stormed away. What an arrogant jackass! How dare he say those things to her! For all he knew, she was still dating Marshall. Pace was so testy over the fact that he thought she’d slept with Marshall when they were together, yet here he was, seducing her, while he still believed she was with Marshall. Ass!

Pace chuckled behind her. “Come on, Stacia. I’m just messing with you.”

He followed her across the crowded room until she reached the restroom. Then, he did exactly what he’d said he wouldn’t. He grabbed her arm and kept her from entering a place he wouldn’t follow.

“Seriously, what’s up?” he asked.

“Do you really want to know?” Fury and also desperation coated her features. She really wanted to tell someone. She wanted it off her chest.

“Yeah. Though this fire is pretty hot.” He raised an eyebrow.

“God, is everything just a joke to you?” she asked.

His eyes shot straight through her. “Not everything.”

“Feels like it. I feel like a joke to you.”

“Most things, Pink,” he said, stepping closer, “but not you. Never you.”

Stacia tensed as she forgot the world around her. Pace had a way of doing that—making her lose herself. But all she did by losing herself was open herself up for him to hurt her. Time and time again.

“Pace,” she said through a shuddering breath.

“I won’t take what isn’t mine.”

“Good.”

“I just still consider you mine.”

My Thoughts:

When I decided to read, Silver, I initially didn't realize that it was part of a series that should be read in sequential order.  However, it was very easy to follow along, and catch up with all of the characters and what had occurred in previous books, without being lost.

Silver is told by the main character, Stacia Palmer, who should be excited because her college football quarterback boyfriend, Marshall Matthews, is about to be drafted in to the NFL.  Stacia has only every wanted to be a quarterback's wife.  She wants a life of comfort, and has a passion for the game of football.  However, at this time, Stacia has a change of heart.  She dumps Marshall, because she realizes that she is unhappy.  She doesn't love Marshall, and can't stop thinking about Pace Larson, her ex-boyfriend, also a quarterback.

Stacia decides to change the direction of her life.  However, this proves to be a huge challenge.  Stacia is behind in college units and her grades were average, because she never really put forth effort.  She coasted by, because her real goal had been to snag herself a star quarterback.  After some personal reflection, Stacia decides to go in to sports broadcasting.  We see her change her priorities, and work really hard to get in to the program, and then strive to make high grades.

During this time we see her ex-boyfriend, Pace Larson, try to get back into her good graces.  It's obvious that Stacia and Pace share strong feelings for one another.  However, they have a complicated past full of bad decision making, lack of communication, and immaturity.  Still, as a reader, I couldn't help but root for these two to resolve their issues and get their happily ever after.

Along the way, it was a pleasure getting to know Stacia's best friends, Bryna, Trihn, and Maya, as well as her new friend, Whitney.  We also get to see how tight-knit Stacia is with her father, (football coach for U.S.C) and her brother, Derek, who is the starting quarterback for their father's team.  All of the secondary characters were fabulous.  I loved the deep friendships that Stacia had, and the warmth and connection that she shared with her family.  All of these characters had their own backstories as well, and I would love to go back and read them in the previous books from this series.

There was a lot of drama and angst with multiple antagonists in this story, as well as the back and forth between Stacia and Pace.  This kept the story interesting and entertaining.  There was no denying the intense passion and feeling that Stacia and Pace felt towards one another.

Stacia and Pace grew tremendously as characters in their story.  I enjoyed seeing them mature and grown; both as individuals, and as a couple.  The ending of the story was very sweet and romantic!  It had me grinning from ear to ear, and satisfied with the way the author chose to end the story!

My Rating:

I give, Silver, by K.A. Linde, 4 Growing into Adulthood, Angst,  Drama,  Passion, Dreams, and Love-Filled Stars.

PROLOGUE

“Let them in.” King Maltrier pulled in a shuddering breath and then coughed raggedly for a minute.
“Your Majesty, are you sure?” his longtime servant asked. He had the same relentless attitude that he always had, but he sounded more earnest than ever, as if he could will the King not to die.
     “Get them, Solmis. Now.”
Solmis walked wearily across the darkened room. He heaved open the weathered door to the King’s bedchamber and spoke to the pair of guards standing watch, “Get the boys. The King wishes to speak with them.”
One guard punched his right fist to the left side of his chest in a formal Byern salute and then walked into the outer chamber. A moment later, he returned with two young boys with the same dark hair and blue-gray eyes that marked them as Dremylon heirs.
“This way, boys,” Solmis said. He was one of the few people who could get away with calling the Princes boys
“Thank you, Solmis,” Edric, the crown prince, said with a smile and the confidence of someone who never wanted for anything.
The second son, Kael, pushed past them both, mimicking his brother’s stride. His face was set in a scowl. Some of his youthful exuberance had already drained out of him, and in its place was cynicism from losing a mother too young and from having a sick father, but mostly, it was from being second.
     “Father,” he called out.
“Come here, Kael,” the King said. He patted the side of the bed. “You, too, Edric.”
Edric walked to his side and settled into a chair while Kael hoisted himself up onto the bed.
With Edric being fifteen and Kael at thirteen, both were much too young for this kind of loss.
The King had seen his youngest, Jesalyn, earlier that day. She had cried the entire time, understanding what was coming and knowing she could do nothing to stop it. In tears, she had run out of the room and straight into Consort Shamira’s arms. She had all but raised the child after his wife, Queen Adelaida’s unceremonious death.
But he couldn’t waste thoughts on that now. He was tiring with every passing moment. The boys…they had to know.
“Solmis,” the King said, regaining a shred of strength.
His servant, his old friend, left the room, giving them the privacy they needed.
     “Father,” Kael repeated impatiently.
     “I’m dying,” King Maltrier said.
Silence followed the declaration. Kael looked aghast. Edric tried to hide the shock of what he knew would be coming next.
     “Edric will succeed me.”
“I’m too young to be king,” Edric whispered.
“Fifteen is not too young.” The King thought that was questionable, but he would not dispute it with his son. Edric had to be strong. He had to rule. “You have the Consort and my High Order to help and guide you.
Edric swallowed and nodded. “Yes, Father.”
“Trust in yourself, and all will go as planned. I have formed an alliance with Aurum for Jesalyn to be queen and another with Tiek, who has offered you their young Princess Kaliana. Honor these matches to keep our people safe. A strong king is one with an heir.”
The King leaned over and coughed into a handkerchief for several minutes. His throat was raw, and his lungs ached. He didn’t know how much more he could take, but he had to pass on their legacy.
But could he put that burden on them?
     He had to decide now.
No. He would tell only one. He would pass it on to the boy most like himself—the one who could handle the knowledge, the one destined to rule.
The King turned to one of his sons and said, “I need to speak with your brother alone for a moment.”
His eyebrows knit together as hurt and confusion clouded his features. “But, Father—”
     “Go,” King Maltrier commanded.
He clenched his jaw, stood, and left without another word.
It was the last time the King would ever see his son
The door closed roughly behind him.
King Maltrier turned to his other son. “You know the story of our ancestor Viktor Dremylon.”
He nodded, but the King continued anyway.
“Viktor struck down the evil Doma court that subjugated our people. Then he claimed the throne for himself with the sole purpose of ruling in a fair and just system.”
     “Yes, Father.”
“History is told by the winners.”
“What do you mean?” He tilted his head and looked concerned.
Perhaps he thought the King had already lost his mind.
“Viktor did destroy the Doma court, and he ushered in a new era of Dremylon rule that has persisted two thousand years up until you today. But what is not in the stories is that the Doma court had ruled because they had powerful…abilities.”
His son laughed like his father was telling a fairy tale.
“Listen!” the King snapped. That sent him into another fit, and his son helped him sit up, so he could cough into his handkerchief.
When King Maltrier leaned back again, the King saw blood had coated the white silk.
    “Father, you should rest.”
“I need to tell you—” He was interrupted by another cough. “—the truth. Viktor beat the Doma court and the most powerful leader they had ever known, Domina Serafina, by stealing magic—dark magic, a magic that cursed Viktor and all his ancestors. It cursed me…and you…the entire Dremylon line.”
His son remained silent and still. The King had gained his attention.

“Now, I must leave you with this, Son.” The King retrieved a heavy gold key from around his neck and placed it in his son’s hands. “A lockbox in the wall in my closet contains Viktor Dremylon’s writings. Collect it, and tell no one. You must continue our legacy. Anyone who has Doma blood and discovers their magic must be eliminated. They threaten our power, your power. They threaten the very world we live in.”

“Do you enjoy the view?” King Edric asked.
“The rains have made the gardens bloom, and it warms my heart to see it so.”
“It is good to know that the gardener approves of the work.”
Cyrene laughed lightly. “I have not gardened in a month’s time. I fear I can no longer call myself a gardener.”
She remembered when she had told the king of her interest in gardening at the last feast day almost a week ago. After that dance, Queen Kaliana added a list of plants to her assignment, forcing her to reread every page she had already dredged through for information. It had wasted two entire days.
“Perhaps I could change that,” he offered.
He directed her down the staircase and into the courtyard below lit solely by the setting sun in the distance.
Her stomach churned at the thought of him offering assistance to any of her needs. It was like what she had read in her children’s books of the tales of Leifs, and how one request would be necessitated by a much larger sacrifice. Her biggest sacrifice at the present moment was time. She wanted nothing more than to finish her work on agriculture and prove that she could get moved somewhere that involved traveling…and adventure.
“On the contrary, My King, I am fully enthralled in my Affiliate duties, and believe that gardening would only distract me from my work.”
“You cannot spare one afternoon to spend in my gardens?” His blue-gray eyes searched her face. “If you have half the green thumb you suggest, then it would be delightful to have you on the grounds.”
She swallowed. “I really have much work to accomplish before we go on Processional.”
“I could speak to the Queen and request it be lessened,” he whispered into the evening air.
“No!” It was the first time he had ever admitted to discussing her with the Queen. Hearing him admit it aloud made her voice come out strangled.
Cyrene missed her footing on the pebble path and stumbled forward a pace. Edric steadied her. He turned his body to face her in the middle of the garden, and her breath caught at the sight of him in the setting sun.
“You do not wish me to speak to the Queen?”
“I spoke out of turn. Please forgive me.”
“I cannot forgive that which I do not understand. Did the Queen somehow offend you?”
Cyrene shook her head. “I fear that the Queen does not…like me.”
Edric laughed softly, taking one of her hands in his own. “Oh Cyrene, I believe that the Queen likes no one but herself.”
Cyrene found that she, too, could laugh at his comment.
“Now, tell me what the Queen has done to make you believe that she dislikes you.”
“It’s nothing, my King.” She turned her face away from his. She couldn’t possibly tell him the real reason.
“Enough to infuriate you, which is enough for me.”
When she looked back up into his blue-gray eyes she felt that same magnetic pull between them. Somehow she had not realized how close they were standing. His hand felt warm against her bare skin. His body only a few inches away from her. His breath hot on her face. Her heart contracted in her chest, and she forced herself to respond.
“She speaks of…of your interference, as if…as if you…”
Time stretched between them, and she thought for a split second he might move even closer to her. She was rooted in place, captivated by his gaze.
“Yes?” His other hand drifted to her waist, and she was suddenly on fire.
Their breath mingled together as she murmured, “As if you favor me.”
“And do you think that?”
“I…”
“Yes?” he asked, stepping closer.
“I think you have your queen,” she breathed.

What Made Me Swoon:

Swoon #1:

"His mouth stroked her bottom lip and opened her mouth.  She met him tentatively at first, and then wholly indulged in the feel of him.  Her senses intensified all at once.  The softness of his lips, the callouses on his hands touching her skin, his taut body pressing into her.  His scent clouded her mind, and she forced herself not to move too fast.  His fingers moved to knot in her long hair, and she moaned lightly into his mouth.  Being kissed this way was like tasting the first strawberry of the season-so sweet and way better than you ever remember.  (eARC Loc. 2952)

Swoon #2:

"You deserve to be with someone who makes you happy.  Someone who won't complicate your life.  Somebody who won't hurt you."  "Someone like you, " she said.  "Someone like me."  (eARC, Loc. 4322)

Swoon #3:

"You know what I'm going to do when you're feeling all better?  "What?"  she asked as his lips traveled up to her elbow.  I'm going to kiss away every bruise and every scar and every headache.  I'm going to kiss away every thought of heartache, he whispered, the kisses reaching her shoulder."  (eARC, Loc. 4485)

*K.A. Linde has released the first chapter of the book on Fiction Press!!!!!!

My Thoughts:

This story is told from the perspective of the main character, Devon Sawyer's, point of view.  She grew up in a well-to-do family with two parents that were successful country singers, and her siblings, Dustin, and Dani.  She decided to go away to school in St. Louis, where she became best friends with Hadley, while being dorm room mates.  Devon was a Freshman at the time, and Hadley was a sophomore.  Hadley graduated a semester early, and moved to Chicago where it appeared she had become successful, and completely fulfilled.

Devon decided the summer of her junior year, that she needed to get away, and hopped on a train to Chicago, to spend the summer with her best friend Hadley, and Hadley's boyfriend Garrett.  She lied, and told her long term boyfriend, Reid, that she was going to Paris with her family for the summer, and told her parents that she was going to be in St. Louis with her boyfriend Reid for the summer.  She didn't want anyone to know where she was (except for Hadley,) and it was obvious that she was running away from something.

However, everything was not as it appeared.  Devon, soon discovered that Hadley had secrets of her own, and that her life was not as perfect as it appeared.  In fact, Hadley had a cocaine problem, and when Devon confronted her about it, the result caused a huge rift in their friendship.  Also, Devon suffered from nightmares consistently, about a man chasing her, as she ran and tried to get away.  This man then captured, and attacked Hadley.  She woke up in a cold sweat, upset stomach, and deeply rattled from these nightmares repeatedly.  Devon got close to Garrett who was an upbeat, and friendly person, as she talked to him about her nightmares, and life in general.  They quickly became friends, and had a growing attraction to each other.

Devon also met, the gorgeous, quiet, brooding bartender, Brennan that worked at a restaurant frequented by Hadley.  He got Devon a job there for the summer, and the more time they spent together, their mutual attraction and feelings toward one another grew.  However hard Devon tried to deny what she felt for Brennan, (because she had a boyfriend,) those feelings would not be pushed down.  Brennan became a good friend, who was loyal, and tried to help Devon, and Hadley mend their friendship.  He was a good guy, a talented musician, who played guitar, and sang, and was very attractive.

I enjoyed, Following Me, by K.A. Linde, immensely.  It was very different from her Avoiding series, in that the focus of the story wasn't romance, but facades, and it was just as amazing.  I loved the mystery, and suspense of trying to solve the mystery behind Devon's nightmares.  I was curious to find out where the stemmed from.  I loved how the story developed at a good pace, with secrets revealed little by little.  I found the four characters each interesting in their own way.  It was obvious that each and every one of them had their secrets, and I was anxious to learn everything there was to know about Devon, Hadley, Garrett, and Brennan.  I enjoyed reading about these well-rounded characters, the vivid descriptions, and dynamic plot.  This story was unputadownable!  Ms. Linde has proven her talent in capturing her readers attention, weaving a captivating, intense story that comes to life, and jumps right off the pages!  Following Me, is a book you don't want to miss!!!

My Rating:

I give Following Me, by K.A. Linde, 5 Spectacular, Suspenseful, on the edge of your seat, stars!!!  This story will grab you from the very beginning, as you are trying to figure out the mystery of Devon's Dreams, why she has left her life behind, and escaped to Chicago for the summer, Hadley's secrets, and more about Garrett, and the swoon-worthy Brennan!  If you enjoy a story filled with mystery and suspense, with interesting characters, I highly recommend Following Me!

My Favorite Quotes:

"As much as she tried to escape everything that had happened, her life pinwheeled her through time and space.  She felt upside down and right side up.  She felt lost and so alone, yet completely surrounded."  (eARC, Loc. 1642)

"The more she was around him, the more she noticed him, and that was a slippery slope.  Had he always been this good looking?  Had she just been blinded by Reid, and all of the problems that she was working through that she hadn't noticed before?  Or was it more than just his appearance?  After all, he hadn't changed his looks.  It was just him.  Something about him that she just got...something only you could experience.  Now that she was staring at him, she couldn't fathom not noticing.  If she thought coming to this show would at all dampen her rising desire for the man sitting in front of her, she was wrong.  Dead wrong."  (eARC, Loc. 2050)

Top 5 Things You Do In Your Spare Time

Dance – I danced in college and even started the Georgia Dance Team at the University of Georgia. I still coach the team and take pole dancing classes on the side.

Read – I read mostly YA fantasy and dystopian novels. I recently finished Seraphina by Rachel Hartman and The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson.

Go to movies – Before I started writing all the time, I used to go to the movies almost every weekend. I saw Iron Man III in theaters and I’m really looking forward to seeing Man of Steel!

Shop – Yeah…I’m a girl. Also, I’m a huge bargain shopper. I love to hunt the clearance racks. But recently I’ve just been buying more hardbacks, hoping I have time to read them in between all the books I’m writing.

Cruise – Well, I suppose this should just say vacation, but I think some vacations are more relaxing than others. So maybe it should just say the beach…I’m not that picky as long as the beach is sandy and white with the ocean that I’ll never get in because I don’t like sharks. But cruising is awesome, because you get all that plus endless food, shopping, dancing, fun activities!
