The epic story of witches, gods, and monsters that USA Today called a "must read" continues in the third book of the Elementals series!

My Thoughts:

Suspense, action, and adventure heat up when the Elementals learn that they must keep the powerful Titan, Typhon, from reuniting his body with his soul.  The plan is as follows, behead Medusa, and use the curse to turn the Titan to stone.  However, first, the Elementals must find and acquire the Golden Sword of Athena to penetrate Medusa's hard-as-a-diamond head.  The sword is protected by ice nymphs and the snow goddess Chione in her ice palace located in Antarctica.

I love the unique personalities and gifts of the Elementals.  Their magical abilities have come a long way and it was fun seeing Nicole use her skill with spirit, Blake with fire, Danielle with water, Chris with air, and Kate with earth.  When these four get together, there is always fun, laughs, danger, thrills, and suspense.  What a wild ride!

In this segment, we also have more romance than was in the previous books.  That is a huge bonus in my eyes.  Blake and Nicole are officially a couple, and I loved how enamored they are with one another.  These two were meant to be, and the way Blake treats Nicole makes my heart melt.

There were major twists in this segment, and the ending was an epic cliffhanger!  Wow, what an exciting and nail biting ending.  This segment is my favorite in the series so far.  It had more excitement, angst, anguish, danger, and romance.  I loved every moment of it, and the fact that the story was such a wonderful reading escape, that flew by!

My Rating:

I give, The Head of Medusa, Elementals #3, by Michelle Madow, 4.5 Fast, fun, phenomenal, and magical stars!  This is a great series for teens and the young at heart alike.  If you enjoy Greek Mythology, the Elementals is a must read!

We slayed our first monster together in that cave, we escaped the Land of the Lotus Eaters when everyone there was trying to kill us, we blew up one of Scylla’s heads, we slayed the hydra, and we stole the Golden Sword of Athena from a goddess’s ice palace. No matter what challenges we face, we’ve always come out on top. Tonight won’t be any different. We’re the Elementals. We train together, we fight together, and we win together. GR's Summary:

A demigod who can kill with a touch. It's an ability that must be kept secret from everyone, even from those trusted most.

Finding out that her new school had her in a special homeroom for witches was strange enough, but now Nicole must face the realization that she has the rare power to kill with just a touch. It’s a secret she needs to keep not only from the Head Elders, but from the super-sexy witch Blake, who she’s had undeniable chemistry with even before he broke up with his long-term girlfriend, the vengeful witch Danielle.

Now Nicole and the four others gifted with powers over the elements, including Blake and Danielle, must stop a series of monsters that they previously believed to be dead from rising once again and destroying the mortal world. Three magical items are needed, including the blood of the slain hydra – ingredients that they must journey to the dangerous, mystical islands in Greece to retrieve.

The monsters they face on this journey will be more threatening than anything they’ve encountered yet. But with the fate of the world on their shoulders, it’s up to the Elementals to return home victorious. Will they find the ingredients they need? Can Nicole and her friends pull off this mission while the tension between her, Blake, and Danielle threatens to ruin everything? And how long will it be until Nicole is forced to use her ability to kill in front of everyone, revealing the true darkness of her powers?

Find out in The Blood of the Hydra, and join the Elementals on their next journey in their quest to save the world – or die trying.

My Thoughts:

I am loving the Elemental Series so much!  It is filled with magic, adventure, fun filled fantasy, and references to the epic Greek Poem, The Odyssey.  This has been a series that I have enjoyed reading from beginning to end, and I am always looking forward to the next book in the series!

In, The Blood of the Hydra, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, Kate, and Chris become closer than ever!  Their mentor Darius is teaching them how to hone their skills over spirit, fire, water, earth, and air.  While Nicole has strong feelings for Blake, she is keeping her distance from him, in order to keep the group close and functioning for the greater good.  In the first book, Blake dumped Danielle, and Nicole doesn't want to cause problems by starting a relationship with him.  Also, Nicole is keeping a huge secret from Blake and the rest of the group, and she feels very guilty about it.

In this sequel, "The Elementals" are sent on a very dangerous journey to collect items that are very difficult to get.  These items will help them stop the Titans from returning to earth from Kerberos, (a prison world that the Olympian Gods exiled them to.)  Along the way, the group encounters many fantastical creatures, sharpens their individual skills, as well as their friendships, by working together as a strong collective unit.

I highly recommend the Elementals for pre-teens and teens.  It is a very innocent read, and yet it hooks you with wild adventures, realistic teen characters, magic, and little bit of romance.  This would be a great family read.  I could see it being the perfect mother-daughter read.  However, this story transcends gender, and I believe both males and females would enjoy it equally!

My Rating:

I'm ready for the next book in the series, The Head of Medusa!  Greek Mythology is so much fun to read, and this series expertly weaves it in, while giving us Ms. Madow's own special unique twist!  I give, The Blood of the Hydra, by Michelle Madow, 4 Magical Scavenger Hunt, Adventurous Twists & Turns, and A Fun Bookish Escape Filled Stars!!!

GR's Summary:

Filled with magic, thrilling adventure, and sweet romance, Elementals is the first in a new series that fans of Percy Jackson and The Secret Circle will love!

When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly … she’s apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers—and, to her dismay, by Blake—the school’s notorious bad-boy.

Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.

When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers. But the comet has another effect—it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town … and possibly the world.

Lindy's Thoughts:

The Prophecy of Shadows, book one of the Elementals Series, was so much fun.  This story was easy reading, and the book flew by.  I love stories based on Greek Mythology.  I felt like I was part of the story, as I was swept away in a world filled with magic, witches, and a place were the history of Mount Olympus and the Gods was factual instead of mythological.  This story was such a treat to read.  I devoured it, and was excited because I knew that it would be appropriate to share with my middle school and high school nieces and nephews, as well as awesome enough to hold the attention of my adult friends.

When high school sophomore Nicole Cassidy is forced to move from Georgia to Massachusetts, she learns that magic really does exist.  She is indoctrinated in to a tight knit group of powerful witches, and learns that she too is part of a blood line descended from the Gods.  Soon, Nicole learns that she is at the center of an important prophecy, along with her guy crush, Blake, mean girl, Danielle, and friends Kate and Chris.  As the five teens embark on a quest to uncover the prophecy, they run in to danger, mythological creatures that they've only read about, and discover how to use their new abilities directly linked to the elements; Fire, Air, Earth, Water, and Spirit.

I loved the way Michelle Madow weaved a story that I could get lost in.  I was enraptured, and hanging on to every word as I learned more about Greek Mythology, and the powers that Nicole, Blake, Kate, Danielle, and Chris possessed.  I could easily visualize the way energy worked as these teens used it to accomplish magic.  Simultaneously, Ms. Madow expertly and believably executed the teen voice.  I enjoyed the themes of family, friendship, teen crushes, and growing up.  This is the kind of story that you will want to binge read, and won't get bored or need a break from.  I loved it, and can't recommend it enough!

My Rating:

I give The Prophecy of Shadows, by Michelle Madow, 4 Powerful Magic, Perilous Journey, Heal or Kill, Butterfly Inducing, Crush Filled Stars!  I wish I had the sequel, The Blood of the Hydra, in my hands right now!  It's going to feel like a long three month wait, but I will be diving in to the sequel, as soon as possible!

The Spirit is ALWAYS the Ace in the Deck

Well first things first! LOOK AT THAT COVER!!! GAW-JES!!! Then I read the synopsis and boom i’m hooked! I love Greek mythology and the author did a marvelous job of creating a clear line between the norms and the abnorms. love love loved it. I look forward to more from this author about these wonderful characters. Though I have to be honest I’m hoping for more from our main girl but I know she’s capable of it!!!! Great pace never a dull moment get ready to zip through this title.

The Story, Nicole is new and thrown completely off axis by those that know more than she does. Apparently she is a witch…who knew? From the beginning the reader is set up to get to know all of the ins and outs of this wonderful new world. Was it perfect? No. There are a few things I would've done differently esp when it came to Nicole’s obsession with Blake…gag. Hopefully that all gets worked out soon because Its such a bummer when a main character is pining away for a boy lol. Save the world Nicole! Don’t worry about ol whats his face, that will all fall in line later babe. Trust me. I look forward to seeing how they develop. There was a lot that was unanswered like who the heck wrote the prophecy anyway, and I can go on and on. Several questions were answered but some still have me in an arm bar. Seriously. All and all I really enjoyed this read.

The Characters, Okay I’ve already touched a little bit on how Nicole is like all piney away on Blake. Connection smonnection blah blah…Dude! Ef that guy your like a total bad A$$ but to each is own so I wont take it personally. LOL I really like the relationship Nicole has with her family and I think that shows through in the way she is with her new friends. She is just trying to figure it all out and I look forward to seeing how she does it. Blake…Oh Blakey wakey shakey bakey…What is it about you…HMMMMMMMM Me thinks he’s keeping a secret. I wish this was in alternating POV’s because I’d love to be in his head, he’s just very mysterious. I feel like he’s holding back but I want him to stop holding back and explode as a character. There is definitely a strong connection between Blake and Nicole and I think I have a feeling I know why. Regardless this guy is a bit of a mystery and I look forward to finding out all of his secrets!

The End, wa what? Man talk about a not so fun walk in the park or should I say cemetery. I really liked the way the ending was laid out for the reader. Every person played their part nicely. This is where we find out a HUGE missing piece of the puzzle that is like NO WAY! I TOTALLY KNEW IT!!!! Okay not really but when we find out its like *Face Palm* how did I NOT KNOW THAT! Im cereal guys, super cereal. Luckily we are given a sneak peek of the next which was super cool because I can already see some growth in the characters. Eeeeep let the race begin!!! Come on book 2 I cant wait!!!

My Rating
4.0 First day, Tennis, Knee, Homeroom, Sun, Note, Web, Comet, Aether, Playground, Book, More Danger, Kindling Romance, I Cant wait to see what happens filled stars!!!
