Stacking the Shelves & Sunday Post (65)

This was a tough week for me.  I had been doing better with my cough and shortness of breath, but then out of nowhere, I took a turn for the worse.  My doctor doubled my prednisone and prescribed me a corticosteroid inhaler.  He told me to take my oxygen daily with a pulse oximeter, and if I got to the low 90's not to put off going to the E.R. anymore.

I asked if he thought there was a possibility I had Covid, and he said yes.  However, there are no tests unless you are medical personal or are in critical condition.  He told me to isolate myself and my family, and if I don't improve after this set of steroids runs out, and my breathing continues to get worse, I need to go to the ER.  The tightness in my chest, shortness of breath, and pain in my chest keeps fluctuating.  I was feeling better today, so I decided to put the groceries away.  Next thing I knew, I was out of breath, had to use my inhaler and sit down.  Overall I'm doing a lot better, but I can't walk very far in my one bedroom apartment or take a shower without getting out of breath.  I've been on the steroids for two weeks, and as I start to taper off, I hope I continue to improve and not backslide.

My husband and daughter each have had a cough and low grade fevers.  My husband says he's feeling ok, just really tired.  My daughter is non-verbal and has Autism, so she can't tell me how she feels.  She spent all last week crying and screaming a lot though which scared me, and I could hear a raspy sound.  This week though she's doing better and hasn't been crying as much, so I hope she gets better quickly.

Needless to say, my reading, blogging, and pretty much everything in my life has taken a hit, as I've been down for the count.

  1. Oh no, hope you feel better soon and have a quick recovery. I'm sure it's nervewracking too wondering about Covid. Especially with family members also feeling under the weather. I know two people who've had it- my cousin who's a nurse (and her husband actually) who felt rough but came through okay, and my best friend in Chicago who had it very bad and felt awful for weeks. He's coming out of it now and they never actually confirmed he had it (he was tested but never heard back) but said it was worst he's ever felt. It just affects everyone differently, apparently.

    Anyway sending lots of good vibes your way and hope you all feel better soon!

  2. Things sound pretty stressful at your house. I don't understand, though. Your family is exhibiting symptoms, why can't you get a convid-19 test? In NJ, if you have symptoms (cough and fever chief among them), you get a script and get a test. That's crazy, that your doctor could not give you that. I hope you and your family begin to feel better and that none of you are infected.

  4. I am so sorry darling especially in hearing they won't test you. You should be tested. If I could I would get you one in Utah I would. My dad had similar symptoms to the virus (but he also has health conditions that mimic the same symptoms) but he was able to get tested but thankfully he didn't have it, just allergies bringing it all on. I hope you and your family get to healing soon and my thoughts, prayers and love are being sent your way love. Such a scary time for you and know I hope you and your family heal soon.

  5. Sending you virtual hugs. I know they won't help, but I am thinking of you. I am sorry you are having to deal with this and hope you find some relief soon, as well as your husband and daughter.

  6. What your Dr. told you about testing doesn't sound right. I'd call the ER and tell them your symptoms and see if you can get tested. If you're having trouble breathing and getting around because you're so tired, those are classic Covid symptoms and I wouldn't hesitate to go to the ER. Don't hesitate if you're having trouble breathing. Please! Things could turn dangerous quickly! Take care Lindy!

    1. Plus I agree with the other comments you should be able to get tested, call the ER and tell them that your whole family is exhibiting symptoms. xo

  8. Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, Lindy. It sounds very scary and very stressful. I'm surprised you can't get tested since you're clearly exhibiting symptoms. I sure hope you start to feel better very soon. And that your husband and daughter don't get any worse. I'll keep you in my thoughts. {{hugs}}
