Patch Up
by Stephanie Witter
Genre: Contemporary New Adult novel with a slow building romance.
Due to some shocking scenes, this novel is not intended for readers under 18.
Length: over 85 000 words.

Blurb:

Skye followed her long time boyfriend to Seattle for their first year of college, but he dumped her after only a week. The relationship brought only pain and destruction in Skye's life, and yet, she can't bring herself to open up and live her life.

"What if I am already broken into pieces?"

She hates to be touched, hiding under her oversized shirts and behind her wild frizzy hair. Even her bubbly roommate can't reach her. And yet ...

"I'm the guy who knows how you can hurt so much that your insides feel like they're cut and bleeding."

The tall, handsome, and tattooed TA in her psychology class changes everything when he literally collides with her and confronts her. For the first time in a long time, she wants to try and open up to this guy whose dark, intense eyes can't hide his own pain despite his dazzling smile getting to her.

However, just when she's starting to live again, her ex-boyfriend comes back, breaking her time and time again, making it all the more complicated.

She wants to fight for herself and for this building thing with the TA, even when he pushes her away, but can two broken people patch each other up?

"I never thought colliding with someone could change lives, but it is possible."

Excerpt:

(The first meeting)

[...]

Without paying attention to my surroundings, I turn to my left to walk toward the row closer to the door where a seat is available. I take a step and collide with a hard body, almost toppling me over on the ground for the second time in less than an hour. A strong hand grips me firmly by the forearm. My body stiffens and my breath catches in my throat. It’s as if I can’t move besides yanking my arm free without looking up to see who I collided with.

“Are you all right?” he asks me in a deep and calm voice.

My eyes wander from my red Converse to his dark boots. I have to calm down. I’m being ridiculous. Calm down. I take a deep breath and look up slowly. Long, muscled legs in beat up dark blue jeans, an old black leather jacket open over a dark grey V-neck sweater that showcases an impressive tall body with broad shoulders and finally, longish and messy black hair, perfect straight nose, full lips, high cheekbones and expressive soft dark eyes that lock with my bluish-greyish ones. He looks older with his goatee perfectly trimmed. A perfect hot mess many girls would say. I’m just intimidated by this stranger, though.

“I’m fine,” I reply, my voice even. I push away some of my untamed locks and curse my auburn frizzy hair that is always all over the place.

HAVE you SEEN the COVER?!
#badA$$ Just like Stella!! I LOVED the continuation of By a Thread!! Stella Gah!!! AMAZING!!! George...All knowing and awesome!! I want to start off this review by saying... I have been WAITING for this book to come out seriously #WhyiCantSleepAtNight! It was so worth the wait! The only thing that has me totally bummed is...WTF?! I need book 3 like NOW... RIGHT FLIPPING NOW!

#IMightDieWithoutThis!

Tension is full of passion, deception, love, heartbreak, and most importantly the power of the human soul to rebuild and to fight. Action packed from beginning to end. I was cheering for, dreading for, afraid for, and fighting right beside Stella. Get ready for an action packed roller coaster ride that’ll have you pacing while you read.

T-
rust, everything Stella has known has been fake. The two people she loved most betrayed her in a horrific way. (He who shall not be named) pulls the final string and Stella loses all the feelings she ever had for him. Hatred is what fuels her.
E-
ngaging, never again will Stella allow herself to be put in such a precarious situation. Everything she does from here on out will be carefully planned, executed, and powered by hate.
N-
aked, Stella could never hide from George. He knows her better than she knows herself. She has bared her soul before, but the fear of losing him consumes her, and she feels lost.
S-
trength, rebuilding and fighting has come through hard work and endless pain. Each day is a reminder of what Stella must do. Her final action towards recuperating herself is one she can never return from. Will this be a price Stella is willing to pay?
I-
ronClad, the friendship that develops between Jesse and Stella is absolutely endearing. There is nothing they would not do for each other. Their bond was formed out of their similarities.
O-
bsession, what was once love, has turned into a dark desire. Unable to accept the mistakes he’s made, this man from Stella’s past will haunt her, even if it means hurting her.
N-eed, the way they need air, Stella and George can’t imagine life without each other. He will fight for her. She will do whatever it takes to keep him by her side. After so much pain, will a careless act be their demise?

We find out so many things, and yet I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface! I can't WAIT to get to the nitty gritty of code word; (Clementines) and his Deceit. NOOOOOO OMg What a CLIFFHANGER! Y’all know how I feel about those! I want to...

#FaintLikeSeriouslyPassTheFu**Out!

Oh well, time to do what I do painfully well...WAIT...I’ll just be... Waiting if you haven’t read these books get on the good foot and go!

My Fav’s

Stella
#AmazeBalls! #myFavBeast! #ThisGirlKicksA$$ Love, love, love her! She has always been a bad a$$ in my mind, but in Tension she really goes full throttle. She is determined to overcome her weaknesses.  She proves to everyone she’s a fighter, without realizing it. Unfortunately, Stella has had to endure some pretty traumatic events, but through it all she has remained herself. I hope this isn’t a spoiler, but #shecutsherhair! I almost cried. I was totally with Finn and I hope it grows as fast as mine :) Well, all that aside, when Stella is faced with a decision she makes the toughest one there is, and I support it whole heartedly. #That'sMyGirl

George
#amazingandsexyasever! George has always been there for Stella, even when he wasn’t. Does that make sense? No? Okay. Even when they are apart, his actions are always for her. I love that while he is amazing caring and loving, he’s not perfect. George has flaws! He’s jealous, and brooding at times. Hey, that’s real. I’ve dealt with my fair share of jealous b/f’s #FACT. I love George’s family dynamic. He has a great support system, and a precious niece named Finn, that is a total little peach. I have a wish, one I don’t want to talk about cause I don’t want to jinx it... Just know... Just know.

My Fav Quotes

Stella (Kindle Loc. 1069)

“I just do. It’s a fact, you know. I know when you lie to yourself, even when you don’t know it. We’re connected and I’ll always know. We were meant to be.” He pointed at her chest and then his “You and me.”

Excerpt:

Gwen announces that it's time to eat and we make our way to the kitchen with T leading the way. I stiffen momentarily when Ian's fingertips rest gently against my lower back but soon relax beneath his reassuring touch as he guides me forward.

Several times during dinner, I sense Ian's eyes on me, and I glance up. The first couple of times, I quickly avert my gaze to the plate in front of me. But now, a glass and a half of wine later, it's getting harder to shift my attention elsewhere. He watches me through hooded eyes, and I refuse to look away. I reach for my wine and swirl the liquid slowly around in the goblet. I take a long swallow and slowly run my tongue around the perimeter of my tingling lips, teasing him. His eyes darken and the corner of his mouth tips into a half smirk.

After we eat, I stand, offering to help Gwen clear the table. Shockwaves of electricity jolt down the center of my back when Ian steps behind me and whispers into my ear. "Thank God you weren't eating a banana or I might have had to excuse myself from the dinner table for a few minutes." I draw my lips between my teeth to keep a mad case of giggles from erupting.

"I'll go bring in some wood for the fire," Ian offers. Under his breath he mutters low enough only for me to hear, "It'll be the closest thing to a cold shower I can get away with right now."

"Do you want me to help?" I whisper playfully.

"No. You’ve done more than enough already," he shakes his head. Gwen arches an eyebrow at his remark. I understand the meaning behind his words and grin. He shrugs and walks outside with a huge smile on his face.

Hosted by: AToMR Tours

GR's Summary:

There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker.

If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get annoying. Fast.

Falling in love with the girl who had at first seemed immune to it, was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him into their family when he was five. But loving the girl who has her fair share of secrets is about as easy as that same girl loving the boy who seems to have none.

As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch, and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they begin to wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one.

As push comes to shove and choices aren’t only needing to be made, but forced to be made, Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other.

Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents, go on to expect a promising future? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it.

My Thoughts:

Near and Far begins with Rowan attending college in Seattle, and pursuing her dream of making art.  Jesse is still in Montana working long hours on the ranch.  We get the alternating perspectives of Rowan and Jesse, when they are "Near" one another, as well as when they are "far" apart.  Lost & Found was such a beautiful story, and Near & Far just deepened my love of Rowan and Jesse's journey, the characters, and Ms. Williams brilliant writing.  Rowan and Jesse try to not let more than a month go by without seeing one another.  Jesse drives the long distance in his old truck, "Old Bessie," on Friday's after work straight through the night, stays the weekend, and then drives straight through Sunday night to make it to work at the crack of dawn, forfeiting sleep to spend every possible moment with the woman that he loves.  Rowan, takes the Greyhound bus to travel to Montana on her school breaks.  It's easy to see how deeply, and madly in love these two are with one another.

In Near & Far, Rowan and Jesse have to deal with many obstacles that challenge their relationship.  They have to deal with the long distance separation, conflicting commitments, the negative influence of other people, and their own inner demons and insecurities.  Rowan and Jesse miss each other tremendously when they are apart.  They long for one another, and try to at least speak on the phone.  Commitments also test their relationship.  Rowan's commitment to her Art, such as shows, and internships takes her away from Jesse, just as Ranch responsibilities take Jesse away from Rowan when they try to put aside quality time to spend together.  Also, they end up dealing with manipulations, from an Art T.A. named Jax, who has his sights set on Rowan, Jolene, new hired help for the ranch, and Mar, a homeless lady who gives horrible advice to Rowan, and has a deep dark secret of her own.  However, the worst challenge they face is their own insecurities, demons, and over thinking.  Jesse becomes plagued by nightmare's of his past, and thinks that Rowan would be better off without him.  He doesn't want to bring the darkness from his past in to her life.  Simultaneously, Rowan becomes tormented with the insecurity that Jesse will tire of her, and not want her anymore.  Especially, after her own family abandoned her.

I'm happy to say that Rowan and Jesse also have positives towards making their relationship work.  They have Jesse's loving family's support, good friends Garth, and Josie who offer advice, and a sounding board, and one of the deepest, most intense, passionate, and selfless relationship's that I have ever experienced in a book.  Jesse's mother, Rose is a nurturer at heart, and continuously offers sage advice to Jesse.  We get a lot more Garth Black in all his glory this time around.  Garth grew on me.  I was able to see that he truly  cared about Jesse and Rowan.  He knew they belonged together, and were miserable apart.  We get to see tremendous character growth for Garth in this sequel.  We see the black knight open up, and for all that he teases and plays around, he really is a deep thinker.  When things are tough, you want Garth in your corner.  I am thrilled to read Garth's story next, and can't wait to see a woman bring him down to his knees!  I have a pretty clear idea of who will be the one to do it, challenge him, and bring him a lifetime of happiness, and something to call his own.

Near & Far was an excellent sequel, and the Lost and Found Series has been nothing short of breathtaking!  Ms. Williams descriptions are beautiful.  They gave me great visualizations, helped me to feel the emotions of the individual characters, as well as how they felt about one another.  I connected strongly to Rowan, Jesse, and Garth, as I devoured this book in one sitting!  My favorite character was Jesse.  I didn't know that it was possible, but I fell even more in love with Jesse, in this sequel.  We all know that bad boys can be sexy, but ladies, Jesse Walker will show you just how sexy, a dreamy golden cowboy can be!

My Rating:

I give Near & Far by Nicole Williams 5 Fabulous, Favorite, Passionate, Dark, Dramatic & Drool-Worthy Cowboy Stars!  Read this series!!!  They just don't make em' like Jesse Walker!  He is every woman's dream guy come to life!  Jesse loves like he created the meaning of love.  He's swoon-worthy without even trying.  Passion, Selflessness, Loyalty, and Stud come to mind when I think of Jesse Walker.  You will fall in love with this sexy cowboy.  I know I did!  Saddle up ladies, "Save a horse, ride a cowboy!"

My Favorite Quotes:

"I had to sacrifice what I wanted for what she wanted, because ultimately, no one could control another person.  The harder one tried, the more the other slipped through their fingers."  (eARC, Loc. 65)

~Jesse

"For you, I'm a weak, weak man.  I'm so weak for you that you could break me with one word.  You could end me with one look.  You could ruin me with one touch."  (eARC, Loc. 145)

~Jesse

"I love you for all of your pieces, not just a select few.  I love you for your dark, dirty secrets too.  I love you, Jesse.  I love...you."  (eARC, Loc. 4067)
