GR's Summary:

The New York Times bestselling author of Slow Burn turns up the heat when a sexy bet turns into so much more…

Hawkin Play, the bad boy rock star with a good guy heart, has lived a lifetime of cleaning up after his twin brother’s mistakes. Hunter’s most recent screw-up could land Hawke in jail and risk the band’s future. Hawke agrees to guest lecture at a local college to stay in the judge’s good graces—and a bet with his bandmate to seduce his sexy teaching assistant is icing on the cake.

Quinlan Westin is harder to bed than Hawke imagined. She knows his type and is determined to avoid the rocker at all costs—even if their attraction runs deeper than simple lust.

Just as Hawke might finally be winning over the girl, his brother has other plans. When Hunter realizes his twin finally has a weakness, he’ll stop at nothing to take advantage…

Lindy's Thoughts:

The Driven Series is filled with combustible heat, titillating passion, and beautiful romance.  All of Ms. Bromberg's characters are real, raw, and powerful.  The messages and themes in her stories are authentic and relatable.  The emotionality of each of these books gets to me every single time.  I cry with these characters, feel hope and joy with them, and they make me feel such a strong emotional pull and connection.

In Sweet Ache we get Quinlan Westin (Colton's sister) and Hawkin Play's love story.  Quinlan is a character that I have loved since the beginning of the Driven Series.  She is a strong, intelligent, ambitious, independent, loyal, and loving woman.  I respect the fact that she is not a doormat and demands the respect that she deserves.  In Sweet Ache, we get to see another side of Quinlan.  We see her open herself up to love, and become vulnerable.

Quinlan meets Hawkin, when she is assigned to be the T.A. for him as he becomes a guest professor who lectures on sex, drugs, and rock and roll at U.S.C.  Hawkin is the lead singer in a famous band.  His identical twin, Hunter, is always getting into trouble, and Hawkin enables him continuously.  Hunter's latest screw-up has landed Hawkin in his unwanted current position as guest lecturer.

When Hawkin meets Quinlan, he is determined to win her over.  However, she presents a first time challenge for him, when she doesn't fall at his feet like every other woman.  Quinlan finds Hawkin extremely sexy and attractive when she meets him, but she knows a player when she see's one; after all her brother Colton was quite the manwhore, before her sister-in-law Rylee tamed him.  Vince, (Hawkin's bandmate and best friend) bets him that he can't get Quinlan to go to bed with him.  Hawkin quickly and confidently accepts the bet.  However, the stakes get higher, and complications arise, when both Quinlan and Hawkin begin developing feelings for one another.

Sweet Ache was scorching hot!  Hawkin was a character that had many layers, and I enjoyed getting to know who he was as Quinlan got him to reveal himself to her.  Hawkin was all man.  He was sexy, tempting, beguiling, and knew how to play a woman's body like an instrument.  However, it was the vulnerable, and hurt little boy that shone through in this story, and completely stole my heart.

Together, Quinlan and Hawkin made the perfect pair.  She was so patient, nurturing, and sweet with Hawkin.  She was the key to unlocking the torture, guilt, suffering, and emotional scars that were embedded within the depths of his soul.  The passionate inferno between these two exploded on the pages, and I got swept away in a crescendo of feeling.  The plot was filled with twists, suspense, and memorable characters.  The story was fast-paced and flowed seamlessly.  I got reunited with Colton and Rylee, as well as introduced to new characters, Vince, Ben, Gizmo, and Rocket.  I would love to hear more about these new characters, and hope that Vince eventually gets his own story!

My Rating:

I give, Sweet Ache, by K. Bromberg, 5 Erotic, Visceral Emotion, Orgasmic, Naughty Rocker Boy, Tomorrow and Ever After Filled Stars!  Sweet Ache can be read as a standalone, but I urge all of you romance lovers that enjoy a spine-tingling, steamy read, to pick up the whole Driven Series!  You will thank me later!

Mikki's Review:

I have heard amazing things about the Driven Series, by K. Bromberg, especially from my co-blogger Lindy. She's a big fan of this series and we usually love the same books. I could not wait to start Sweet Ache and see for myself what is getting readers, around the book community, so excited. I have not read the previous five books in this series, but that will be changing after today. I absolutely loved Sweet Ache!!!!

When Hawkin Play comes face-to-face with Quinlan Westin, the last thing he expected was for her to be such a challenge. He's on top of the music charts and he's not used to the word NO. What started out as a bet to get her into his bed, soon turns into a wild and passionate love affair that will leave him wanting more. For the first time since the tragic events of his past he's ready for more, but will Quinlan stick around when she finds out about the bet?

Sweet baby Jesus!!! The chemistry between Quinlan and Hawkin was blazing hot!!! The author sure knows how to write some pretty steamy scenes! I am never going to look at music instruments ever the same way again!!! *Fans Self* I connected with these characters from beginning to end! I actually put the book down because I really did not want this journey to end! The author did a fantastic job with both these characters! Her writing style is captivating and I am so mad at myself for not reading any of her work before this book!!! I definitely have to change that ASAP!!! I need to find out how everything started for Colton and Rylee. I really liked them in this book :)

I got all the feels while reading about their journey! This book made me laugh, swoon and most of all it made me emotional. To read about Hawkin' life journey was heartbreaking! It was devastating to see him struggle with what happened in his past. When he met Quinlan, he did not expect to want more. She came into his life and he started opening up about his past. It was amazing to see them grow as a couple. Quinlan was so supportive and it was important for Hawkin to have somebody next to him when everything came crashing down. Their chemistry was instant, but their love slowly grew and it was real and intense!

What I really loved about this book is how well all the characters connected with each other. Often two main characters is all it takes to make me fall in love with a story, but in rare occasions the cast of characters is so phenomenal that you can't help falling in love with all of them. This is what happened with Sweet Ache. From Colton and Rylee to Hawkin's fun and wild bandmates these characters were so much fun to follow that it made me enjoy the story that much more! I read the blurb for the next book of this series and it will be about Rylee's brother. I'm excited for this book, but I'm also crossing my fingers that Vince, Hawkin's best friend and bandmate, will get his own story. He was an important character in this story in my eyes and I would really love to read more about him.

My Rating:

I give Sweet Ache, by K. Bromberg 4.5 sexy, wild, fascinating, page-turning, this bad boy rocker will rock your world stars!

Excerpt:

Quinlan

I walk toward him, the sight of him slightly unkempt with a carefree smile he hasn’t possessed for days calls to my libido on so many levels it’s ridiculous. He brings a shot of something to his mouth and I don’t even give a second thought to what it is because I know I’ll taste it on my lips momentarily.

He hums deep in his throat when I step up into his body and there is something so inherently sexy about the sound—knowing that I caused that reaction—that together with the feel of his firm body against mine lets me know there will be no interruptions this time.

He looks at me, eyes darkening and one hand sliding beneath my shirt a beat before our lips meet in a hungry, no-holds-barred kiss. His empty bottle clatters on the counter behind him so that his other hand can join in the temptation. I lose myself in the taste of the tequila on his tongue, and the hypnotizing feeling of his hands on my body.

The music thumps hard around us, the noise buzzes, and the faint scent of cigarette smoke wafts in from outside but it’s as if none of it hits me because I’m consumed by everything about him: his taste, his cologne, the groan I can’t hear but can feel against our connected chests, the heat of his body. I don’t care who’s watching because it’s almost as if the overwhelming emotions that he’s experienced all week long are manifesting themselves into our mutual desperation.

“Upstairs. Now,” he murmurs against my lips, and I’ve never heard more perfect words. He grasps the bottle of tequila behind him in one hand and my hand in the other without saying anything further and walks with purpose through the crowd. I can’t see his face but he must have a determined look on it because not one person stops him to talk when that’s been the norm for the evening thus far. At the bottom of the stairs, I catch the eyes of the three wannabe women and just smirk. Call me bitchy, but I can’t help it, I’m with the one they were hoping to land tonight.

About K. Bromberg:

Author K. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner, who has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her—the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard. Kristy lives in Southern California with her husband and three small children. Her motto is ‘have lap-top, will travel’ because she writes around school drop offs, entertaining her four year old (who is still not in school full time), homework battles, and endless soccer practices. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her with her Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.

  1. I think I have seen this book around the blogosphere before, the cover doesn't look so bad either. I usually can't stand sexy covers lol. I like that the heroine doesn't fall over the hero's feet like most books do, it's good that she put up a challenge. Great review overall <3 Benish | Feminist Reflections

  4. I have yet to pick up a K. Bromberg book, but I really need to get on the stick and fix that. You both have me convinced that this guy who is more than he shows the world and this gal who doesn't just rollover for his rock star persona are a great reading experience.

  5. Wonderful reviews! This one sounds like a wonderful read! I like the sound of the main character and how she doesn't fall for the male mc right away. :)
